  • Power-Con 2014: New York City

Power-Con 2014 was just announced today. It will be moving from sunny LA to New York City. Scheduled for Sept 13th and 14th, 2014. It also appears that they are dropping the Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themes this year, and focusing exclusively on Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power.

So... Who all plans on going?

I think dropping Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a HUGE mistake for a small con like Power-Con. That brought in a lot of people to the one in Torrance, California last year.

Unfortunately, a change in locale wasn't what was needed to bring me back to Power-Con....

I'm really on the fence about this. While I do think it would be cool to attend and to catch up with others in the fan community, I'm torn about my money going to support certain individuals. I'm very hesitant to give any monetary support to some of the schenanighans that has gone on over the last year or so.

I would've jumped at the chance for this a couple years ago, but now I'm just not so sure. I was planning on going to NYCC anyway.

I feel the same way. I definitely think last year was my final PC and this venue change only solidifies my decision.

You know what, you guys need to go and Rock a "HEMANWORLD" T-shirt. Have Emiliano design the art with his name prominently shown.

I am on the West Coast, so a trip to NY for me is out of the question as I have too many trips planned this year.

Hell, maybe even sell some T-shirts to support this site AND the Power and Honor Foundation.

Hahahaha… better yet, "HE-MAN WORLD" should set up a booth at Power-con.

In truth, I don't know how this Power-Con hopes to make any money in NYC. With Mattel probably not going, and with them dropping Ninja Turtles and ThunderCats, I think they are going to lose money on ticket sales this year.

I somewhat suspect that Val dropped them. If he felt that it would cost him to much to book talent from TMNT and TCs, it wouldn't surprise me that he would drop them. I don't think he understands that you have to spend money to make money, and I don't think he ever bothered to figure out how many people where there for TMNT last year.

RoboSteveo, I´m pretty sure Val knows that you need to spend money to make money. All shenanighans aside, he lost quite a lot of money in the past 12 years doing anything with MOTU. It´s always very easy to point fingers and say "Why don´t they do this and that, it´s SO obvious". But if you´ve never organized a fan-event (like Power Con or Grayskull Con in Germany), you really don´t know how much money is involved and how frustrating it is if that money is not coming back. Last year we wanted to get Anthony De Longis to Grayskull Con. But we just couldn´t afford it. And noone really wants to run into serious debts for a fan-organized event.

Hey DJ... What I'm saying is that Val is known to cut corners if he can to save money. I know for a fact that he refused to pay Anthony De Longis' talent fee to go to Power Con last year, only to regret it afterwords when Toyguru premiered the Blade figure at the event. Val has canceled panels after hyping them to get people to buy tickets, because he didn't want to pay the cost of having some of the talent on the panel.

I went to the first 2 PCs . I actually enjoyed the first one better. And I'm also hard pressed to have my money going to organization that doesn't stand for what I believe in. What our great nation was founded upon. It is what it is. Just like Fox,CNN or MSN they have an AGENDA.

I was still planning on going with the family since NYC is so much closer fo us. But my kids absolutely love TMNT, and that would have been a big reason for going (MOTU for me, TMNT for them). So I'm kind of disappointed in missing out on the experience, but even though my kids like MOTU too, it's not worth the trip without TMNT & Thundercats too for the whole family.
