The original writer is attached as well as the writer who penned "Monster Squad". They have my support, until they don't.

I'll watch it, but I'm not overly excited because I think it will probably suck and butcher the legacy of the original.

The Thing was definitely a prequel. The film even "ends" with the opening scenes from the first film being shown. It was just dumb that they called it "The Thing", as the title confused audiences into thinking it was a reboot. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the film.

I believe "The Thing" was meant to a prequel, not a reboot. It ended with the dog running away like in the beginning of the original one. Of course, if you're talking about John Carpenter doing a remake on "The Thing from Another World", then I can't really speak on that one. Never saw the one with James Arness.

Also, I thought the Dark Horse Comics series of the events after the Carpenter movie was pretty decent.

Now a sequel is something I'm down for. I've read some ideas of how it should include Dutch having post-traumatic stress disorder about the whole thing and trying to tell the government about it, but they won't believe him. From what I understand Schwarzenegger doesn't want to go that route and go back to the jungle like in the first one. I'm certain it'll be good though now that the remake business is cleared up.

IMO it's better to leave earth for other none alien based movies, there is like a million of them already, imagination is virtue you know!

The Earth has enough diverse and alien-like environments to make a good Predator movie. Just driving thru Organ Pipe Cactus National Forest last week, imagine a Predator hunting Border Patrol, immigrants and narco smugglers in an environment like that.

Or present day Detroit - some parts really look like the apocalypse.

It all depends on the script, the plot, special effects and the actors.

Good to know it isn't a remake. And I look forward to the sequel so long as it isn't on planet Earth. We need new fantasy environments and alien animals to spice things up.

YES, bring on the sequal. To be honest, I love the original, like Predators 2 and like Predators.

As far as remakes go, the only two in the past 10 years that surprised me were Conan and Robocop. Now they don't replace the originals, but I thought they were decent movies that I enjoyed and can stand on their own. I also don't mind the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot, as it is actually a scarier premise than the original.
Fright Night, Friday the 13th, Total Recall, Superman, Amazing Spiderman, The Thing (so unnecessary), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and so on.

SPOILER BELOW ABOUT NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET REMAKE BELOW:
Original - the children of the parents who killed Freddy are hunted, because they killed him for killed other children.
Remake - If you remember that you were molested by Freddy at Daycare, they he will enter your dreams and torment you. Basically if you are molested, you can't tell, because this guy will kill you in your dreams. Way more messed up IMO.

terrible and soulless. No midgets with machine guns or Taxi-Drivers with 5 kids. Just weak CGI.

Glad to hear that this will be a sequel, and not a reboot. The original is a classic.

I just recently revisted Total Recall. That movie was perfect exactly how it was. Its still quite enjoyable, infact I think I enjoy it more now than I ever did. I have no interest in the silly remake.

Remakes are kind of all in the same league. Like the Fright Night remake for instance. Here you have an beautiful 80s horror classic, and then along comes another CGI rehash with no character. It was just meh.

Rumor had been passed around for years about a Beetlejuice remake because Tim Burton supposedly felt that the special effects at the time weren't able to translate his creepy vision the way he wanted. I hope it never comes to light, Beetlejuice is another movie you just can't mess with.

I didn't mind it as much as I thought I did. Of course I spent a good deal of that time drooling over Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel. HOTCHA!!

Total Recall bombed at the box office. I never saw it, but all my friends who did said it was terrible.

What a bunch of crap. "Predators" was actually pretty good. Just go from there and expand to something meaningful, no need to remake a classic.

I haven't seen the remake of Total Recall, was it any good, or skip?

I'm not too sure about this suspicious move, but then again it's becoming a trend in Hollywood... Probably Disney need to remake the old Star Wars trilogy as well!

Shane Black is a great writer and director. He also helped write the first Predator movie, and was even one of the commandos in the 80s film (Hawkins). I think the film is in good hands.
