  • The Pandemic Check-In Thread

Hey folks, long time no talk. Please check in here once in a while to let everyone know you are still kicking. Are you in a stay-at-home/shelter in place state? Still working? Haven't ventured out of your basement mancave since New Year's and don't know what I am talking about? Let us all know here.

I am still gainfully employed full time at an "essential" job, so I am well. Trying to work out a telecommuting agreement with my boss just to limit exposure but in any case way better off than many others, so no complaints.

I live in San Francisco California, so yeah we're in midst of this lockdown fiasco, however I wish it won't turnt into a curfew/martial law scenario in a week or two!
I have two jobs, one I still go to with shorter hours which I could take a break from if things get out of control, and the other one is me being a full time freelancer which I've been practicing remotely from home for a while now!
All I can say, I'm very exhausted from the area that I live in, and I wish I could move to another location soon, but that's a whole another job by itself! :skeletormes:

Glad to hear from you, Mech.

I am sitting here wishing I had acted on that urge to move to some super isolated cabin in the woods I've had the last couple years...lol.

Cabin in the woods would be awesome as a second home, and now with the tiny homes trend is something to consider for sure, but it would a be collector's nightmare if it's your only home unless you have a separate cabin just for your hobbies!

Andy here. I live in Ohio. I work at Ford motor company Lima engine plant, which is 90 miles from my home. They are shut down at the moment so I've been susy homemaker/bob villa essentially. My wife works in the nursing home and it's been bizarre that our work-life/roles have changed. She's just recently had the sniffles but no fever. Still they want her to quarantine for two weeks.

My youngest son is in the Marines out in San Diego and he just had a baby. I wish he was home or could excape out into some secluded cabin as well.

Hope y'all stay healthy, stay safe, and keep your moral up.

Also as in inside joke between me and my wife, "by the power of garlic!"

So, I just got back from my part time job, we've finally shot down (Don't know if it's just temporary or for good!) and my boss asked me to go and file for unemployment! Yuppieee.
Looks like some of my bills will take a break as well!

The city here is closed down and it feels like you're in a post apocalyptic movie! Shops are boarded up and mostly the homeless who are active!

Hey guys, sorry for the lag, time apparently flies when you are...um...socially distanced.

Andy, I get it. This kind of thing makes all of us want to lock our loved one up in towers, I think.

Mech, sorry about the job. At least unemployment benefits have gotten boosted for a little while...

Nah, I needed a good break from that job anyways, I've been doing it for a loooong time and only for the convince; a few blocks from where I live and practically I was my own boss, but other than that I've grown to hate it! Funnily enough, I may do hours here and there to help out when the conditions are back to normal and if it survives the lockdown!

As for the unemployment, we'll see when the first two checks arrive!... I'm more worried about my freelance gig and if I'm able to sustain it or not with this mess!

I hope everyone's safe and well - I'm in Swansea, not working but still gainfully employed (awaiting equipment to telecommute, basically).

Hey everyone. I've been a bit quiet on the forum for the past few weeks. I had the flu and ended up sick for about 3 weeks, and had to self-quarantine and work from home. I had major headaches, trouble breathing, coughing up phlegm, throwing up, shakes... not the best 3 weeks of my life.

I don't know if it was Covid-19, as I was unable to get tested, but I soon found out that someone I was in contact with at work had it before I became ill (the whole building ended up getting shut down and cleaned). I spoke to my doctor about testing, but they told me to just stay home unless things became really bad, and sent me inhalers to help with breathing. I'm doing better now, and am continuing to just work from home and avoid going out in public.

Wow, I hope things are a lot better for you now John. If it was the dubious Covid-19, I hope you've build up an immunity from it by now, and I hope you're family are also safe...

But from what you've described it sounds also like a strong flu! I went through a similar sounding case in 2014 and I've recovered from it fully after 3 weeks, the first 10 days I couldn't even eat or go to the bathroom, I literary had to crawl on floor to get to the bathroom or to the kitchen!

Just try to boost your immune system with good dose of vitamins (C, D/D3, Zinc, Omeg3 and such) and try to keep hydrated, and make sure to stay away from any sugary stuff and eliminate those starchy foods from your diet, viruses thrive on that stuff!

Still going to work. Wearing a mask every time I have to take the subway. It sucks. :Slithe:
