  • What is the last movie you purchased?

This used to be a favorite topic of mine so I figured it would be good to bring it over here. This was always a great way to find media you might not have otherwise discovered on your own.

Of course, times have changed since the days of "What is the last DVD you bought?" in terms of formats and delivery systems, so I thought to make it a little more universal.

    ================================================== ================

So to kick things off, I picked up the Austin Powers Triple Feature Blu-ray 3-pack on Christmas Eve. Couldn't pass up the $7 price tag and to watch a set of movies I haven't seen in a long while but have been increasingly quoting in the past 6 months...

Goldmember: Would you like a shmoke und a pancake?
    Austin Powers: A what?
Goldmember: A shmoke und a pancake. You know, a flapjack und a shigarette? No? Shigar und a waffle? No? Pipe und a crepe? No? Bong und a blintz? No? Well, then there ish no pleashing you.

The last movie I purchased was Star Trek Into Darkness. It is kind of a mixed film, but overall, I enjoyed it.

I bought the 1987 "Masters of the Universe" movie on Blu-ray a few weeks ago. The colours look gorgeous. If you haven't seen it yet on Blu-ray, I highly recommend buying it!

I've been trying to only buy cheap blu-rays lately, so I was able to grab Constantine for $4 and V for Vendetta for $7.
...Even if he doesn't enjoy them, for the most part I've enjoyed the adaptations of Alan Moore's work.

My son & I went to buy Man of Steel. My boys liked it and I think it's a solid film for what it is. I've heard many issues concerning the color of the movie.....darker. I'm ok with it. It's not that bad. And it depends on what kind of TV you own as well that brings or doesn't bring out more color.

I refuse to see Man of Steel. Zack Snyder, Chris Nolan, and the other idiot that was involved need to stop making movies immediately.

What up AG? What I know is MOTU....that's it from when I was 5. Yes I knew about the super heroes...Super Man,Bat Man,Spider Man ect. I didn't read their comics. So when all of these movies are being made about them. I have no past attachment to any of them. So I don't know what they are & aren't following true from past works. Like the Transformers films. I've heard terrible stuff about them & what they did from online posts. I thought they were entertaining films. Just like the new Batman films,Avengers & MOS. Do you get what I'm saying? I understand being a core fan of these super heroes b/c I'm a core fan of MOTU. In That a movie being made might get butchered up. Kind of like the "New" MOTU movie starting production this year. Hoping for the best on that one. Fingers crossed.

I'm not a super hardcore super hero, comic book fan either but, I can tell when a filmmaker is purposely attempting to put his own stamp and reinvent an already established, successful property. As you mentioned, Transformers is a good example. Not only are the designs of the characters a radical departure from the designs most are used to, but clearly Michael Bay is all about eye candy. His movies are just product placement, hot girls, bad jokes, and messy visual effects. He cares nothing about the history or staying true to the root of the property. Christopher Nolan is another one who dropped the ball. Batman Begins, the first of his series of Bat-fails... was actually very good and stayed true to the origins of the character... It had the right mood and feel. The rest were strictly money makers. It is so obvious that The Dark Knight and Dark Knight rises were all about Nolan's artistic vision and stylistic nonsense. Poor story, poor editing, and poor execution for both. To this day, millions of fans insist that TDKR is one of the best movies ever created, and I'm just like HUH!?.

See again I have no back ground about Bat Man. I know general stuff. But I never read those comics either. Always been MOTU for me. I actually enjoyed the Bat Man movies. I liked them better than Transformers. I agree Transformers could be a bit more serious. I also really MOS too. I guess when I have no historical or childhood connection I'm less of a critic. If MOTU makes a movie my tune may change on that one.

Still trying to stick to my $10 and under Blu-Ray purchases, I bought Kick-Ass for $8 so I can watch it again right before watching the sequel.

I got Son of Batman (I'm a sucker for those DC animated movies), and I had to buy Speed Racer on Blu-Ray too because my boys saw most of that movie on TV about a month ago and absolutely loved it. They couldn't stop laughing every time Spittle and that monkey were on screen.

A few days ago I purchased Man of Steel (very good) and Pacific Rim (a little cheesy but the monsters are cool). And still a lot to go in the Fantasy and Sci-Fi category...

Bought a whole mess at once, actually:

Hell Baby (Unrated) - dumb, but genuinely hilarious.
Saturday Morning Mystery (AKA Saturday Morning Massacre) - interesting, kinda turns on a dime from something kinda hipster-ish into something very dark.
Dead and Gone - haven't watched yet.
                        Dead and Deader - ditto
                        Scream Park - ditto
Flesh for the Beast - ditto
All the Colors of the Dark - ditto
Not every beast is tender, especially if there is genius in his making.

Of course, as long as you stay away from the pron.

I don't seed and delete the file off my computer after downloading via UTorrent, saving it to a thumbdrive.

How else does anyone watch Game of Thrones?????

I do the exact same GREP-A-TOR. Never seed anything. As soon as a file is finished I end the transfer and delete the transfer file. Watch the movie and then delete it.

I have streaming and rent DVD's from Netflix. The swashbucklers at the Bay get me the rest. The last DVD's I got was for Christmas, Game of Thrones Season One.

I don't know about you Robarr, but I would say after all these years dealing with Matty/Neitlich and having a couple of figures of the SOB is the ultimate HORROR in my book.

I keep hearing all these things about these guys and I feel still somewhat in the dark about it all. I can only glean a bit of info from all the complaints I keep reading from everyone. I've not had to deal with Mattel directly as of yet, I've been buying my MOTUC stuff from a third party. Catch me up a little?

The last picture is mostly recent purchases and contains a few non-horrors. The rest, and the rest of the pictures, are most (but not quite all) of my horror collection.
