Thanks for watching the movie. My son and I started working on the title card sequence for the sequel, Masters of the Universe Origins: Part Two- The Vengeance of the Mermen.
Yes, the opening sequence depicts the "universe". Originally, we were going to only use star fields, but then we stumbled upon "the goop". You get a bonus point if you can guess what materials we used to make that effect.
Drop me a link if you get going on your CGI movie. We use index cards to storyboard out our scenes. Using the figures against a plain backdrop would also work. I use the iphone camera to do some test shots of things to see if they are feasible. You could snap photos to storyboard out your scenes. I would be curious to see your take on the mythology. You just haven't gotten your vision out there yet.
Here's a couple of shots of what the title cards for the sequel are looking like. The little doohickeys next to the title cards are Eternian chess pieces. They are going to be incorporated into a pre-title sequence.
Awesome. Is the goop in the intro supposed to represent sci-fi space phenomena?
I'd wanted to get a fan-made CGI movie going, years ago, but it wasn't in the cards. I never thought of stop-motion animation, though! Even as a preliminary storyboard to be upgraded later, it could have gotten my vision out there. D'oh!
Since Edgar Rice Burroughs virtually created the sword and planet genre within which the Masters of Universe exists, I included a homage to Gino D'Achille's 1970s cover painting for A Princess of Mars.
I have included a still picture I took when I was setting up the shot. You can find the shot at around 3:58 in the second part of the movie as He-Man fights the monster.
Check out our New Masters of the Universe Stop Motion Movie: Dawn on Eternia!
We recently finished a stop motion movie called "Dawn on Eternia" adapting a portion of the minicomic, "He-Man and the Power Sword". This took several months to complete. Check it out when you have a free moment.
