  • He-Man & Motu 3D Sculpt's

I like to share a project with you guys, I am currently sculpting the He-Man Filmation cast. The idea behind the Sculpts is that they will be 3d printable & fully digital they can be posed in any position you can imagine,

I will admit probably not as knowledgeable on He-Man as most of member's and as i am striving for accuracy I wanted input from true fans and enthusiast's.

Open to all suggestion's on Charecter's and criticism is welcome

    Now the pics

Thanks for sharing, may I ask what application/software you're using here?

      Yeah no problems,

I use a program called Zbrush it's quite expensive @ $790 But they do a free version called sculptris if you want to have a play. it's become a real powerful weapon in my 3d work and being able to 3d print from it too makes it a serious tool for visualisation of characters biggest bonus is at anytime you can go make changes unlike clay.

Thease models are my base mesh no real detail's atm I did notice myself I done a 8 pack instead of a 6 doh!

I am from the uk so I cannot use them services I have a enterprise park close that has a workshop you can rent hours in that's fully equipment with a cnc 3d printers and laser stuff

what I will probably do is make a few print runs, work out any issues then just make them available via my google drive all for free for anyone.

If there's anything you would like me to attemp let me know, I started on some skeletor props too like his chair and table but finding it hard to find refrance images of his table.

Those are supposed to be coming with the new snake mountain but we'll have to wait and see.

There are few already out though done by customizers if you get my drift and if you still want to do it you can reference those and embellish when you feel fit.

As far as Skeletor goes and my preference, I'd like a mini comic accurate harness that straps properly in the back around his waist but that's a soft plastic and I'm unsure of your capabilities. Maybe mini comic loincloth, shin guards & feet as well.

I'd also like to see skelly come with an articulated jaw or his 200x loincloth & shin guards.

Off the top off my head regarding the soft plastic harness I think it may be possible to model one then flattern it out, then print it , make a cast of that part then use a flexible material in the mould. Probably a 3 step process after the print.

Well my capabilities are limited only from the lack of experience atm and knowledge, I was stumped the other day had to ask a member in chat how many toes skeletor has, is it 3 like a duck , human or almost like a chimp and spaced out?

No definitive answer so I did them all and boots but no shin guards.

As for the articulated jaw that's allready modelled if you have a look at the first work in progress picture that skull is very complex the jaw is separate and and anatomical correct including vertebrae. So the jaw is easily movable but the spine will have to be deleted unless I find a solution to evenly space them and attach them to a wire,

I can remeber reading the comics but cannot remeber the stories only that the figures comics and cartoons didn't match style wise. The only thing I have collected of heman is memories my toys were destroyed before we even hit the 90's so please bear with me as I get up to speed on the progression since then, if you like to provide more reference pictures that would be great.

If I get a chance to jump on the pc i will certainly try to implement the shin guard's tonight.

Bit tired tonight so only managed to do some research, i was looking into cutting up the model and creating joints and i came across a open source project tonight for a action figure. as i dont own any figures is this close to how the heman figures are articulated?.

Close...the hands, shoulders, and knees are different, plus there's no toe articulation.

Here's a funny tutorial on fixing King Grayskull's broken ankle, he tears the figure apart and it might give you a better sense of the aesthetics.

Thanks mate also that was a fun tutorial. It should certainly help. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:116571 There the link to the action figure project. Apparently it prints to 15 inches and there's 70 points of articulation maybe it's a bit over kill especially the hands as every finger has 4 joints. Certainly a good start for refrance

Here's a Turntable version with costume not naked "sorry"

There's two stages in the video costume updates around 46 sec. This sculpt has been a breeze got quite far, only about 6 hours into it
