  • Someone did a Filmation Snake Mountain

This is not mine...and filmation is definitely not my thing but I have to give it props. Bravo Skele Vader!!

I'm surprised this is the first attempt at this I've seen. (although he showed a few others in his video) It's not my thing either, it's a bit too crude, but I'm more disappointed he didn't seem to make any attempt to make the interior play area look anything like any of the scenes from the cartoon. How can you not at least have Skeletor's throne room, if not the cells.

But he's happy and I think he said he put 18 months into it, so clearly an effort.

I have to admit that I may be biased because I'm a customizer that likes to support other customizers. I know what it goes into taking in such a project and I appreciate the hours and ingenuity that goes into his work.

The little details in the sculpt are so appealing as is the paint job and the inclusion of lights. Also the thing scales pretty well with any MotU figures so far and that's impressive to me at least.

Funny thing about snake mountain is that we really never got definite layouts of it. The toy didn't match the cartoon. Years later even in the update we didn't get anything completely accurate. And as far as I know, I'm not aware of any schematics. Maybe this guy can add another tower and include the cells and throne room. The silhouette shows more Filmation than anything I've scene at least.

No, we didn't get any definitive layouts for sure. Nor for Castle Grayskull. That's part of the appeal for me, because I don't need everything spelled out for me and I think mystery adds to the appeal and potential. I guess that's one of the things that always bothered me about the 200x series, is I never really enjoyed the stuff they filled in like King Grayskull and Keldor as they felt unnecessary and didn't fit for me well.

There was an attempt (maybe on he-man.org, I can't recall) to map out Castle Grayskull using shots from the Filmation cartoon. I have no idea if they tried for Snake Mountain.

But, having said that, there were some iconic areas such as the throne room, the giant throat of the snake, and the dungeon. A playset doesn't have to be 1:1 accurate, especially if it IS for play and not for just diorama or photography use, but it would have been nice to see definitive set pieces rather than whatever fan fic looked cool.

I really have to go look at the old cartoon again and see what kind of distant shots we were given. I recall the waterfall, but not the monster face from the original 80's playset. Was that an attempt to merge the two, or did I just miss that from the cartoon? That would explain why the original playset always seemed so disappointing. But then some people like the Eternia playset.

Also, I want to be clear, I don't think I could do a better job sculpting that stuff. But on the other hand, I know this, and I would never release pictures of my work online unless I thought they were really good.

Thanks for the conversation Mathius. I'm not sure where the monster face came from. If anything I'd guess it probably came from so many artist putting their takes on things. It's become synonyms with snake mountain though and that is probably why super 7 merged it with what we got instead of going all Filmation with it.

BTW Nutlick made a map of Castle Grayskull plus it's interior and that's probably what your kinda remembering!

Could be. I also wasn't aware there was a Classic's Snake Mountain until you posted this and I did a search. I'm still not clear where the relationship between Classics/Neitlich and Classics Super7 begins and ends, but I'm not really all that surprised it had a ridiculous $600 price point.

Hopefully we'll get something for the Origins line, but Reddit is reporting that Mattel has cancelled some Wave 6 preorders and that can't be good (if it's true.)

Scott left before super7 took over. I want to say that He-ro son of he-man was the last thing he had anything to do with.

Castle Grayskull Classic was about $500 at pre-order and I know that's high but they go for double that now.

This is the first I'm hearing about origins having any cancellations so thanks for that. I hope that isn't all across the board and we get more figures and a few more vehicles including the Dragon Walker!

Sorry too many brain cells ago. Castle Grayskull was offered at $275 at first but now they go for 3x that

I don't really buy stories about Mattel cancelling MOTU Origins orders. The line is doing very well. It appeals to vintage collectors.

I have no idea. I'm getting completely mixed signals and I can see both sides of it.

              Here's the message I saw: https://www.reddit.com/r/MastersOfTh...his_unit_true/

My local stores are always completely sold out of figures except the original Skeletor/He-Man figures and Wal-Mart had a bunch of Battle Armor He-mans, but I've seen posts on Reddit with the original He-Man/Skeletor marked down to $4 and some change and the same day see them listed on eBay for $30+

But they have like 5 lines going right now, CGI He-Man, Revelations, Origins, Megaconstrux, and Minis, and I dunno how sustainable that is. I'm really, really, enjoying the Origins figures and I don't have much interest in anything else. I've heard reports they're going to re-release some of the earlier waves and now these reports that Wave 6 was cancelled. I'm still waiting on my pre-orders for 7 figures. (Wave 7, plus Mosquitor, FF He-Man, and uhm.. Terror Claws Skeletor) Some people are already selling those same figures on eBay, claiming they have them in hand.

My original Grayskull order from Black Dragon comics was cancelled because Mattel wasn't filling enough of their orders, but at the same time, Amazon got more in stock and I was able to buy them from there, but they didn't ship until a month later almost.

              Who knows?

Sorry to hijack the thread, Andy.

No problem Mathius. I look at it as an open discussion. It's interesting what folks are saying on reddit but I have to wonder if it's because Scott has put the fear into people that origins is getting cancelled.

My local Wally world wasn't getting shit either and now all of a sudden they are getting origins in. They have like 20 BA He-man but just got in the Fisto wave today. ( Speaking of, I have another thread to touch base in) my Wally world also has the cgi figures and Revelations but nothing has moved except Skeletor's.

I just got an e-mail that EE cancelled my order of Mosquitor because they said they were notified by the manufacturer that they would not be making any more.

I have wave 7 pre-ordered from them, but heard nothing so far.

I also have 2 she-ra's that have been in "order received" status on Amazon for close to a month now.
