How many here are actively collecting the vintage line?

I was curious how many here are currently buying vintage figures.

Part of me would love to have all the old figures again (mine didn't survive being handed down to my two younger brothers), so I have been contemplating trying to buy some. The other part of me is wondering how the heck do you get the vintage figures to stand up? I'm not sure how much extra I'd want to spend on stands for all the figures.

I know I couldn't afford to start a MOC vintage collection (nor do I have the space for a carded collection), so I'd have to go with loose figures. Any advice from those of you who do have a loose vintage collection?

Right now, there are only 5 characters I'm missing from the vintage line... Laser He-Man and Skeletor, Tytus and Megator, and Rotar. I don't really buy the old figures unless its something I'm missing, or I see a figure that is in better condition than one I already have.

I have all my old ones from when I was a kid as my kids now play with them, but I haven't collected them in mint shape at all.

I buy one from time to time.Half of the time it's for my son, who loves playing with them. Between the two of us we've got most of waves 1-3.

If nothing else I think it's great to at least have the first wave of figures, I have mine on a shelf on my wall, leaning against the wall so they don't fall over. I repair the rubber joints in the legs as well, if it's worn out

I'm totally still collecting the vintage stuff. I just recently got myself a Land Shark, which I've been wanting for awhile. I'm looking for Extendar, a complete Clamp-Champ, a Fright Fighter, Blast Attakk, The Fright Zone, Blaster Hawk and a Snake-Face. Possible Stonedar and Rokkon. I'd like an Eternia playset but that thing's monorail tracks make it both impossible to find intact and undesirable as a display piece. No interest at all in any of the POP stuff.

I used to buy ages ago figures only if they were in better condition then mine otherwise I dont duplicate them. I miss a few vehicles/creatures as well such as Turbodactyl, Laser Blaster and Artilleray, Fright Fighter and of course playset eternia.

I cant afford carded figures either. I am a loose collector. No card/box prisons here I found hunting for vintage figures lots of fun. Figures such as: Laser Light He-man and Skeletor, vintage Megator and Tytus, Sorceress, Horde Trooper, variant Grizzlier, Rotar and Twistoid are some of the figures that might cost you a pretty penny. Horde Trooper and Sorceress both loose and in good shape with their accessories would cost around $50-$70 each roughly on evil-bay. Toy shows in Ontario would also ask a lot for them. I got loose good condition twistoid without weapons for $15 which was a good price I think. Vintage King Randor can also go for a lot.

My advice to you is to be patient because good deals for vintage come every now and then. I can also help you hunt some of the figures down since I know a place or 2 that sells them.

My vintage figures stand without any problem except for King Hiss. Major problem with vintage figures are their legs when the rubber holding them together starts to rot and one day the legs simply fall out but that can always be fixed with some super glue or some customazing.

The only ones I have are the ones I grew up with, but I think I might move some of those eventually and keep the ones that have real sentimental value.

The only ones that seem to be hard to get is Wonderbread Heman, Laserlight He-man and Skeletor, Megator and Tytus and the Eternia playset.

People army building Horde Troopers always kept the price high too.

Not to mention, Horde Troopers seem to have been underproduced back in the day as well. It was one of the last 86 figures I got. (I did eventually wind up with 2.)

I have what I call a 100% complete US retail collection--that is, everything but the Laser figures, the Giants, and "Wonder Bread" He-Man. However, it's been years since I had it out of storage, so I can't give any help on how to keep the figures standing.

I've been meaning to get a bunch of the vintage figures again- especially the first 8, super mint complete, loose. Right now I only have one or two of them, and a few damaged vehicles floating around, somewhere in storage.

Not counting the ones I had as a kid and gave away to relatives as a preteen, I've already had & sold a pretty extensive carded/boxed collection as well as a giant loose collection during the 1990's. At that time I had everything except pretty much the same ones already mentioned: Laser He-Man, Laser Skeletor, Tytus, Megator, 8-back Faker, and the dinosaurs. I had an 8-back He-Man but he was in bad shape, always wanted a perfect one. I had so many carded doubles, that in 1996, I gave a lot of them away as joke Christmas presents to my friends! Oh man, hindsight! I don't even think I saved any pictures of my collection from that time. I was into 200x for a while but those too were sold to further fund my Star Wars addiction. I only collect MOTUC nowadays really. Sometimes I miss my vintage collection, but then I remember what a pain it was to clean them, and how many items would get badly damaged every time I moved... and I don't really regret passing them on. I am sure one of my Grayskulls now sits in an AFA case in some dude's basement... somewhere out there...

I still keep an eye out for cheap loose Laser figures- those were the ones I could never, ever get back in the day, and pined for for most of the 90's. Maybe a Megator too, he's just so cool. Not so sure I'd want to have all those boxed/carded figures again- Eternia's box alone took up a lot of space, the cat/figure sets were kind of redundant, easy to damage, and also big space hogs. It's also kind of cost prohibitive now for me, compared to the 1990's when no one cared and you couldn't give that stuff away. I could find nice condition carded figures for under $5-10 a piece. Of course, that's ancient history. Like everyone, I'd love to have an 8-back carded He-Man, but I don't see me finding one that's affordable one anytime soon- if ever.

Certainly not me, and the main two reasons for that are:
a) I have to start from scratch since we (me and my brother) lost all of our old MOTU collection in 1986, and it's going to be another costly venture to get most of the vintage items in the shape that I like them to be in.
b) I have no freakin spare space in my place for them....

I pick up a few things hear and there as the majority of my collection (mostly vehicles and playsets) sits in California for the last five years while I've been in Ohio...I'm ready for Classics to wind down, so I can focus on a single collection with more of a plan or strategy. I don't have a SINGLE "complete" collection of ANY toyline! I'm also reexamining my various collection of DC and Star Wars toys to have a bit of a clear focus rather then a sea of plastic, I want museum gallery style and quality displays in my house. I'm getting older, I find I'm having more joy in vintage stuff.

A It's the source of my love.
B I'm a ****ing child who plays with his toys. I don't NEED "premuim format high end collectable" when what i want is a toy that shines, shimmers, spins, shoots, glows or explodes!
C Quality Control is almost never an issue.
D Prices are at an all time low right now! WOO HOOO!

I'm also always looking out for the various books I still need to complete my collection. I need to focus on foreign media but then I wonder what's the point with so much now online? As we get further down this digital age, I find less and less need for piles of and boxes of books...

I guess I just want to find my happy place, and my happy place doesn't need a whole lot of physical, material things, at least not as much as I use to. Still I love looking at other people's HUGE collections. Truly amazing stuff! Wish i had the money, space and time required to curate a MEGA collection. This is why i'm more focused on canon and continuity. My Brain has limitless money, time, space and nothing is ever complete because imagination

Expecting a figure to "stand" is kind of like trying to "keep reading the bios" sometimes it works, sometimes it don't and hell if i can figure out what exactly went wrong so i just give up though He-Bro has some wonderful fix it tutorials that are required reading.

A while back, somebody made Reproduction tracks. I don't know if they still do this or even who it was now. I've never had an Eternia. I've always waited until the day i can go all in on that bad boy!

I always dabbled with the idea to try and reacquire the vintage but sometimes it's all about the price. I mean I haven;t really found an base pricing on what's MOC vs loose and that's another debate i find myself in, whether to go card or loose. I understand they fetch a pretty penny but when I see some sellers selling for anywhere to 200-500 I wonder just how legit the price would be if we didn't currently have Classics right now 9 and I know this is how the market works). But with what i put into Classics right now i have been content to simple try and acquire my absolute pure favorites firs and decide on the rest later. I do have the commemorative sets so that keeps my mind at ease.

My old figures are in very bad shape, most of them having sticky legs and paint scuffs. Therefore, I have been trying to collect again good looking figures. I am also considering to repair all their legs, loose or not, with industrial-grade rubber bands.

The only sticky figures I ever get are the Malaysian ones. The Taiwan ones seem to hold up better.

I only need 2 figures to complete my vintage MOC collection (North American anyway); Skeletor (can never find a nice one for a good price) and Twistoid. I never went after the vehicles or playsets, I preferred to spend my money on the figures (which are expensive as well). I have started expanding into bootlegs MOC (Musashi Hordesmen and Powers of Grayskull MOCs).

Yea my heart belongs to Vintage MOTU. I had the entire 200x collection MOC/MIB but am now parting with mostly of it except for Vintage 200x figures. Same as Classics. I was a completist but really only enjoy Vintage takes on Classic line. As for Vintage yes still collecting. I'm missing a few loose figures like the Laser figures and Zoids. Same for my MOC collection... missing 6 figures there. When I'm done I'll start my MIB vehicle/Beast collection.

My focus right now is to complete my Classics collection first. I came to the MotUC party late because I didn't know about them at first and really was only interested in the old school 80's stuff. That was until I held a Classics in my hand and immediately feel in love with them. I still need just over 60 figures to complete that ongoing growing set. Then I will go back to actively collecting vintage figures. Don't get me wrong I will buy any figure I find at a yard sale or thrift store. (Found a Leech for 50 cents with perfect paint and suction in 2013) As far as standing them up I place them away from each other so when one falls it doesn't have a domino effect. But that doesn't happen much anymore because I fit the figures I have on display around/on Snake Mountain. The ones that have a hard time standing I lean against the playset. I also have used Night Stalker, Stridor, Dragon Walker, Battle Cat, Panthor and more as solid structures to lean figures against that have trouble standing. I have the figures petting the animals or riding the vehicles to look more natural. I need to post some pics of my Castle Grayskull room when I get back home. I painted the walls with sponges to represent stones from the Castle. So yes collecting Vintage is in my plans/goals for the future and even now if the deal is right but I don't go searching on Ebay or anything at this time. Well, I try not to. HA!
