  • He-Man and the MOTU 2013 Ongoing

Continuing from the 2012 mini! I love these comics! The art for the most part is wonderful, and Giffen's storytelling is spot on!!! Plus this is a Filmation for a NEW Generation! For us old fans... it brings Filmation into a much less campy light!

This is one of the worst comics I've ever tried to read. I'll read a few pages from each issue every month but have to put it down because of the writing. The art is not that great either.

Wow I can get behind not liking the art styles and stuff, but from the end of the 2012 mini to now I thought the story was very interesting.

I am not sold 100% on the comics. I'm just not pleased with all the art it is kinda hit and miss. I don't really have a problem with the story line, it is at least keeping Masters alive in another form.

I liked some, and hated some, pretty much a mixed bag for me. But I really do miss the vintage mini-comic vibe in these. IMO, they lack the charm and the mystical atmosphere that I used to sense in the early days!

This is why I'm glad I'm a NEW reader.... I have Fresh eyes without wanting the mini comics back. my only vices are the cartoon series lol I LOVE Teela's attitude here.... something I'd NEVER say about the Filmation Teela.

AND I LOVE THAT FOR THE MOST PART THERE IS NO SECRET!!!!

                        Issue 9 spoiler........................................... .................................................. .................................................. ................................

Things look a bit dire for Moss Man. I'm really not liking this trend of killing major characters off so soon. I know that we will probably have the Sorceress resurrected, but they also killed off Shadow Weaver. At this rate, I feel like we won't have major characters around for too long.

For me, the comics are a bit hit and miss. Hopefully we will see some cool Snake Men stories soon.

So what's the general consensus? They worth a look? I preordered the first TPB on Amazon UK but cancelled it. Read the first two issues; I wasn't bowled over and didn't like the character designs. Plus having Spector and Laser-Lot in it just angers me. But I'm a DC guy and a MOTU guy so feel a probably should support it and give it another change. So is it worth me going back and picking up that first trade?

Does anyone know if the Despera concept and design came from Mattel or was it done by DC?

I do not know for certain, but it seems that mattel is pulling the artists strings and all that. I read an interview with pop mahn and he stated that mattel gave him an outline, and he went from there.

I may be in the minority here but, on the whole, I enjoy the comics. The art is definitely too busy for me; I like the clean lines and detail that Emiliano always was able to convey. Luckily, it seems the art will be cleaned up with these new artists being brought in. I have liked the storyline so far although I think it took a little too long to catch it's stride. I also don't like that they are calling him "Adam" all of the time. I haven't been able to tell, or maybe I forgot, but can he revert back to his "Adam" self or is he permanently He-Man now?

I believe he can revert to Adam. He's been shown as Adam right before the Horde attacked, and in the DC universe/Masters of the Universe miniseries. Though logically, now that everyone knows his secret anyway, there's little reason for him to want to leave his powerful He-Man form.

Having no secret is something where I hope they make more use of it.
Because for me, it boils down to someone like Randor confiding with He-Man about some personal matters. He has done so in the past.
And now that he and everyone knows its Adam, I hope even more exploration on that front.

As of right now, they could have still had secret identity. Adam in the start of the story, he excuses himself and then he just stays as He-Man
for a really long time as the Horde attacks, Skeletor is on Earth, what have you.
Randor could just as easily point out to "He-Man wields Powersword, he is chosen one". And I don't see what would have been lost.

Personally I always liked the secret identity. And yeah I recognize it's silly, when your loved ones are the main target and in danger anycase.

From what I'm seeing. The creators (Mattel) want the personality of Adam, so there's bickering with Teela. But all the powers at the same time.
It's not a bad thing to want, per say.
But I just wish for them to make better use of the situation.

It's one of those things that you just have to go with. Like how they changed the entire set-up of what makes Adam the man he is, the responsibilities
of He-Man. What is Skeletor after and any motivation for that matter. What's the purpose of Grayskull? What is the Power of Grayskull?

.........also; STILL confused as to whom they are trying to target this comic. LOL
