  • Why doesn't Toy Guru even know the names of the figures?

Well, in his latest video Toy Guru said that Extendar splits apart just like Spinnerella... on the mattyforums he talks about "Shield Maiden Sheridan". For a long time he called our favorite filmation witch "Shakoti" and so on... What is up with him? Are there really so many figures he can't even remember their names?

The answer to your question is, He is not the "Toyguru" that he makes himself out to be. Neitlich is using this property to advance his career and probably knows less about MOTU than the average fan.

This, exactly. There's more to it, but not worth hashing out. This is the perfect "long story short".

In his canon, Spinerella splits apart, Sheridan is a 'shield maiden' and there's a witch called 'Shakoti'. The sad thing is that his canon sometimes becomes bio fact

And we know he does not have attention to detail - he can't even write a proper sentence in English, eventhough that's his first language. Or figure out that L = left and R = right and that reversed shoulders are a bad thing...

And I should stop before I start ranting about other things... but I'm sure the others here will do it for me

How many fans can name all the toyline New Adventures characters from the top of their head? Or TEN Jetlag characters? Remember the hate for Netossa, despite her appearing in Filmation?

Not all fans know everything He-Man and She-Ra, especially if they aren't a fan of a particular era or cartoon. TG's weakness might be POP--he might not be as knowledgeable toward POP characters and places, like he is toward say, 200X or MYP. I mean has he ever gotten a Vintage character's name wrong?

That is a wildly inconsistent comparison. He didn't screw up the Primus scientist's names, he screwed up names and details about several characters that are relatively fresh in the toyline that he has current stewardship of. It is not too much to ask that person have a working knowledge of their job. You've made it clear that you are OK with incompetence, but that doesn't mean anyone else should be.

I'm not okay with incompetence. I'm just not obsessed with TG.

In case, you haven't realized it by now, I don't like to jump on TG for every single slight, real or imagined. Toyguru just isn't that big on my radar. I didn't say he screwed up anyone's names. If we got a figure of Spinerella and the package said "Blast Attack" instead, then take him to task for it. Him screwing up a name on a hasty video shot in one take isn't the end of the world to me.

10 Jetlag characters... Flogg/Brakk, Sagitarr, Hoove, Butthead, Quakke, Optikk, Darius, Mara, Flipshot, Vizar, is that 10? I'm sure there are spelling mistakes in some of those names.

To be honest, I just won a quiz with 100 MotU questions, BUT the point is: I'm not selling these toys- Toy Guru is. And therefore he SHOULD know WHAT he is selling. And I actually can name all of the NA characters. And Drissi, Caz, Sebrian, Grot, Meliac, Dreadator, Mara, the Mites and Gleanons, Crita, Grrr, Felca Slushhead, Wanna hear some more?

You're a fan. It's alot different from someone who works in the actual office and only looks these things up when he needs to. For example, there are many fans who know the Marvel Universe moreso than the professionals themselves.

Yeah, but fans expect a person who self proclaims himself as Toyguru: Collector Supreme, to know just as much as a real fan if not more.

Wow, defending Neitlich for not even knowing the names of the figures he is selling in his own videos. He doesn't even need to be a fan to remember five names for two minutes but he can't even do that. Why can't he do that? Because he doesn't care.

I'm ok with him not knowing the names of MOTU characters, every little bit helps to further illustrate how much of a fan he really ISN'T... and that his "Toyguru" alter ego is just a farce.

Heh! I remember on an old Roast Gooble Dinner how TG didn't know the name of Frosta's castle (Hell, I didn't know it either, but POP is my least favorite era). Back then, I too thought that it was jarring that he didn't know that. You'd THINK he would know these things, but that's like expecting Michael Bay to know as much about Transformers as Simon Furman, John Barber or James Roberts. Then we find out that Mattel barely keeps historical records on He-Man and he needs .org members to give him the most obscure information.

Nowadays, TG's lack of knowledge on things that don't interest him (this is conjecture on my part, but I believe it's mainly Filmation and POP that he doesn't care too much about) doesn't surprise me.

For those who didn't figure it out yet (but I think it's pretty obvious by now) : LIEguru doesn't know the names 'CAUSE HE'S NOT THE FAN HE CLAIMED TO BE FOR YEARS ! He's just the FOUNDER and BRAND MANAGER at Matty's, and nothing more ! A despicable marketer who just likes to antagonize the fans...

Plus, the guy is almost illiterate, and wouldn't know the difference between a MOTU character and his butt...

There is just no defending Scott in this instance. Why mispronouncing names is unacceptable.
#1 He is the Senior Brand Manager/Marketing Manager - attention to detail when marketing a product is paramount.
#2 It is a video, you can edit and reshoot. If he was unsure of the name he can pause, delete and re-shoot to get it right.
#3 IT IS A VIDEO, a second Mattel employee should be proof checking and critiquing the video for quality assurance. Mistake found? Re-shoot.
#4 He put himself in this position by creating the monikor "Toy-Guru" and proclaimed himself a life-ling fan and collector.
#5 How long has he been making videos and working with the MOTU property? Lack of improvement over a long time-period signifies indifference and/or laziness and/or incompetence. (see designer Reuben for additional examples).

Scott is the face, gate-keeper and prime decision maker of MattyCollector and the MOTUC line, he controls and allocates the budget given to him by Mattel. It all falls on his shoulders, all of it.

You forgot three. The camera should be in HD since Mattel is the number one toy company, the closeups shouldn't be blurry and he shouldn't be the focus of the videos.

This guy doesn't care about that. The fans will buy the figures just the same. My Michael Bay comparison fits.

Not everyone who works on the MOTUC line is an uber-fan like most of us. Several team members have professed their own uber-love for Transformers, Mego figures, Star Wars, etc. and admitted they're love MOTU but aren't as passionate as some fans. Just as you can't expect a grocery store general manager to have tasted every single thing and know every product in a supermarket, fans can't expect everyone working on the line to know everything.

Still, it's no excuse to not know the product you're selling at the level he's at.

Not everyone goes after EVERYTHING TG does or says. Some things are FAR more important than others.

If TG walked into a room and said nothing, some people would look to find fault in something about him.

If you only came here to complain about complainers, maybe it's the better choice. So, if I was a brands manager of a multi-million-dollar corporation and I was too tired to remember the names of my products I'm trying to sell- I wouldn't do a video to promote them. That has nothing to do with being human, only with professionalism. And this is where Mr. Guru fails all the time. He's just not professional. We all make mistakes, sure- but not that huge amount this one particular person does. And we are not all brands managers, we are customers.

I prefer to hear all sides of a story and judge accordingly. Part of having true freedom to say what you want is accepting that others also have the same right to do that too. Even if you don't like what they have to say. Personally I think some mistakes are far more important than others. Scooter thinks ALL complaints are invalid, because he points out the most over-the-top examples, and uses this to validate himself: "The fans online complain about everything no matter what" or "Fans are so much nicer in person than online" or my favorite "The vocal minority." And the stupid choices they make in manufacturing the figures- the far bigger issues, get blown off. Because now when reviewing this, they can say: "See, they will pick on Scott/Mattel no matter what! So why listen to them?" Why validate that lame argument from Scooter? He's not professional sometimes, that is very true. He baits people on Matty forums, and is blatantly lying many times. The videos seem an afterthought anyway- just more of the modern-day social marketing crap companies do. Another thing to go to corporate with, to prove you're doing your best. You can see the money/effort/professionalism put into the official product photos versus the videos. Lighting, editing on the pictures, compare that to the probably iPhone-shot videos.

They should really get other members of the team to talk on camera at this point, make the videos better. And he should focus on fixing things like thick armor, and not being on camera, he consistently comes across badly. I don't care if he messes up the names, because I'd rather they focus on the more important problems. I'd rather have paint apps back instead of perfect videos. Unfortunately it seems I can't get either one.

After 6 years of QC issues, e-tailing blunders, Digital River screwups, ridiculous bios, horrible spelling mistakes and countless lies and manipulations, there's nothing left to defend LIEguru... nothing ! Only Neitlickers will still kiss his butt...

The ONLY logical reason why Neitlich doesn't know the names of MOTU characters after 6 full years is because he's not professional, and because he's not a MOTU fan, but just a marketer who doesn't care about a thing as long as MOTUC brings money.

He does not know the names of the characters because he is not a fan and he is clueless about them. All he cares about is how many figures were sold and how to stick the real fans with useless characters like that hyrbrid of deadpool and spider-man The Might Spector the worst figure of the entire collection.

Neitlich is an opportunist. He takes what he needs from other people to get ahead AND takes all the credit... this also includes having as little leg work as possible. Why should he feel the need to remember any details about the property when he has his loyal .org drone servants to provide him with the info when he desires it?

He does not even care to increase number of horde troopers so that all the fans could get some. I really wanted to have at least 4 troopers. So yet another fiasco in a long line by Mattel. But mark my words sometime in the future Mattel will offer horde troopers through some remote walmart in california for cheap just like what they did with Roboto and Shadow Beast. Even then Scott lied that he does not know anything about that so called surplus. He always have a serious memory loss when it comes to serious issues but never fails to justify price increase and blackmail cherry pickers that if they dont buy sub he will cut at least 3 figures on the day of sale. If I had a dollar for every time I caught him in a lie I would be a rich man by now. He is a MOTU fan (but only in his dreams)

TG is scared to death of overstock that doesn't go anywhere. There are warehousing fees to house all of the Wind Raiders that they can't sell. Mattel doesn't trust the fans' words on exactly what they want to buy.

This is why I think Mattel should use pre-orders for damn near everything--from reissues to army builders. But for some reason, pre-orders are costly and difficult to get off the ground. That seems like such hogwash. If Mattel would have done pre-orders, they would have known how much of something to make.

I doubt Horde Troopers will ever be sold at Big Lots. Overproduced stuff goes there. Like those Castle Grayskull DOS that they can't get rid of...or those Palace Guards.

Nietlich doesn't want to set a precedence of using the pre-order system for everything. If he did, his sub blindly concept would be out the window. Without the blind sub, he wouldn't be able to push the crap figures onto the fans. He uses the sub to sneak in the figures HE WANTS and the lame figures NOBODY wants, the filler figures. If he used a pre-order system, they wouldn't gouge nearly as much money as they are now. As far as him being scared of overstock... he sure screwed the pooch with Castle Grayskull. Not sure what he was thinking there.

when I was watching his interview with pixel dan for NYC toyfare back in February I realized what a shameful display of MOTUC when Rio Blast is missing one laser. I noticed that for every motuc display he was suprised how fragile the prototypes are. For the money we pay for those things they should put decent prototypes that dont cramble as soon as you look at them. Scott is a fan of money that MOTUC makes every year. He was never one of us and he will never be.
