  • Do you still buy the line? If not, what made you stop?

This forum is all about being able to speak your mind, whether it be with a positive or negative viewpoint with Mattel.... Thus why I wanted this thread in here showing folks that they can feel free to have a differing opinion without consequence of being banned.

I think MOTUC is one of the very few lines that folks quit not out of lost interest in the property, but through its management.

I personally quit awhile ago... The Stinkor arm fiasco was the final straw for me. QC issues being a constant thing, Digital River woes, and Scott's repeated flippant attitude towards the fans rubbing me the wrong way just became too much. Had the line not been managed so poorly, I would still be buying. I just couldn't keep putting money into the pockets of folks that had so little care for customer satisfaction (or just plain honesty), no matter how awesome I thought the figures were.

I am wondering how many of you are in the same boat?

I'm too addicted to that plastic crack. I couldn't stop because in my mind I needed completion. I needed for the toys in my youth to be made with the updates of today's technology and skillful designs of the four horsemen. As much as I hated guru because of the problems that kept coming I softened my stance when I realized just how close to done the line was. Much good in spite of the bad had shown up on my Shelf.

That is a good way to look at it... I wish I could have felt the same.

It just kept running through my mind that as long as the dough was coming in, they had no reason to improve.... But I have nothing but happiness for those that can move past the issues and enjoy the toys for sure!

I am more disappointed that since the MOTUC line came about that the fandom went to war to with each other. Blind followers vs pickers. Then the community leadership had a fallout. It really is quite tragic. We all started as staunch supporters of each other then new people came on board that to me came across as punks. The punks became the new regulars and would say rude things to people like there's a thread on this already or from a long time ago. Or comments like you need to do your research like the Internet has the absolute truth on everything. I don't know.

I still collect the line. I won't let a few bad apples spoil my enjoyment of this line. I guess it's also because I've had relatively few problems compared to others. Off the top of my head, all I can think of is my Bubble Power She-Ra's mangled sword and an incorrect tentacle for Octavia (two #1s, missing #4).

For me it's the place the toys take me when I hold them and look at them. Screw Scott, when MOTUC is over I will still have my figures, while Scott will be a memory, no BS will take my joy of collecting the things that bring back my memories of a simpler time. Having a son who loves toys as much as I do makes my collection that much more important to me, we will always have the memories of looking at my collection and playing with his toys together as long as we live. And when I'm gone, he'll have my stuff. Mattel can kiss my ass when the line is over, I buy a few Hot Wheels here and there, and after MOTUC all my money will be focused on Hasbro / Takara, as it predominately was before MOTUC. So I look at it this way, only price will stop me, and considering 2015 will see a price hike, and with the gouging DR shipping already now, and even more in 2014....2015 will be way too expensive to sub, I'll revert back to a picker, and get only what I really have to have.

I mean 2014 shipping will be over $10... I think $10.29 it was, 2015 will likely be $11....screw that, let alone probably $27 - $29 sub for the figures, I love MOTUC don't get me wrong, but they aren't worth $40 a figure. And for those who don't consider shipping part of the price of the figure....glad you have deeper pockets than I do.

I buy only when I have enough money for it which is raaare. 25 dollars plus 20 dollars international shipment.... ugh.... Though since I don't wanna give Mattel any more money (sick of the crap Scott pulls), I have to rely on eBay which has better shipment rates, but with figures themselves being more expensive... bleh.

I stopped about a year ago. I have some friends who still buy extras so if there is one I really want I can usually get one of of them. The reason I stopped buying was I got sick of dealing with DR and the constant felling that if I did not get something from the line was being a bad fan from Scott. The PR machine really turned me off of the line, and I have to say I'm a much happier collector for it. I still love Motu but the bs was too much for me to keep supporting the line blindly.

I have always bought two subscriptions in the past, but for 2014, I decided to just buy one subscription. For the most part I have been happy with MOTUC, but some of the issues that Mattel never resolved for the fans (like the issue with some subscribers not receiving their FISTO action figures) convinced me not to buy 2 subscriptions this year. The fact that I still don't have a Fisto action figure, even though I had purchased 2 subscriptions that year, still bothers me.

Ouch, I'm sorry that you didn't get a Fisto. Mattel should really turn the machines back on to produce another run of Fistos. I want one too.

To me that was the biggest disaster of the whole line. How they didn't make enough of Fisto and then just refused to make more to satisfy the subscribers was a disgrace. I would've quit instantly has that happened to me.

Don't get me wrong I have out of rage posted on the Org how badly I wanted the line to fail because of the stupity of the 5 minute sell outs early on. I also almost rage quit when I saw how often that they tried to cover up bad qc. I'm still very annoyed about the stinkor deal (and right now it's the bulky clothing on Seahawk) but no matter how mad I was I just couldn't contain my curiosity and sense of imagination. I really just wanted to see the rest of the line get made.

We are almost complete with the vintage line.... if you're not a PoP or NA fan that is. I really do pity the PoP and NA fans though.

I once told Pixel Dan in SDCC 2013 that if by some miracle that the line is completed all the way around that I would eat my words about guru and that from here on out he could do no wrong. I would be a Scott apologist if the entire line was completed. I doubt it will happen. Lol

Love/hate relationship unfortunately. For every triumph there are a dozen shortcomings. That being said I have and always will be a cherry picker. I only want specific items and am not willing to sub to an unannounced line, it is too pricey and risky. I have been with the line since sale 1 so I have managed to pick up most of the items I have wanted (Beastman, Ram Man, Sorceress, Teela).

It is harder now with the bump in pricing (ouch) which is hurting the line IMO. Also Matty said no more day-of sales but it looks like Two-Bad will be up for grabs? Anyone know anything more about this?

No I quit a while back. The main factor was price+shipping. Of the ones I bought, never really had a QC issue, but when the figures made several jumps from $20 to the current $27 and then you add outrageous shipping on top, enough was enough.

The shipping is killer I agree. If it were $4.99 or below I would have bought a lot more in the past year. $27 a fig is also really pushing it to the breaking point for a lot of casual fans I feel.

Still in, but pretty resigned to not seeing a complete Filmation lineup on my shelves (and not just because getting Roboto and Netossa at this point in time is going to cost an arm and a leg). More than the QC issues and the general snobbery of Neitlich, the year I had to become a subscriber to get Shadow Weaver was the point where I got fed up with the line, since I took a HUGE loss selling the many unwanted figures that year. I'll admit to alternately shaking my head and laughing at the issues with he-man.org re: MOTUC since I've largely been disengaged with fandom since it was revealed that the Filmation DVDs would be time-compressed.

                            Chris here...

I quit collecting MOTU Classics a LONG time ago - I think the last figure I picked up was King Grayskull (not the SDCC version, the "bonus figure" version) and also Grizzlor around the same time - end of 2010?

The figures look amazing but there are so many reasons why I got put off collecting - I don't have enough money to take out a subscription and commit to buying every single figure, and the problem with Mattel's "subscribe or die" business model is that I could never get excited about any of the upcoming figures because I felt all I was doing was setting myself up for disappointment when they sold out before I could get to them.

I dislike Scott (Toyguru)'s manner and his PR machine, and at the same time as MOTUC was becoming stressful and disappointing to collect, I also noticed the waters of MOTU fandom becoming poisoned. I first became a member of the online MOTU community in summer 2000, and I can honestly say that, for all the awesomeness of the actual MOTUC figures themselves, the line has also brought with it a LOT of negative energy.

Speaking purely personally - in the end, MOTU Classics actually seriously my damaged my love for the property. So partly why I quit collecting too is because, as a consequence of the negativity surrounding MOTUC, I actually started to lose interest.

                            Take care...

I stopped after the last black friday sale....that the really interesting figures just where avaidable only for the US marked shows me how less they care for international customers.
There will be only one or two figures in the future i maybe pick up from ebay or so but no sub.

Hey guys! First time posting on a he-man related forum for quite some time. I stopped collecting the line when there was so many quality issues! Money is another factor as if I buy the figures on sale, there's a good chance that I would get a custom charge which would be another $30 per MONTH! I will love the line and what it's given fans but if it was at retail, there's a good chance I'd buy them!

The only reason I subscribed for 2014 is because they held Two-Bad ransom. Otherwise I'd be done with this line do to all of its issues. Mainly ToyGuru's attitude towards the fans.

Sallah, i found and started the line due to your videos on YouTube. Stuck with it due to my love for MOTUC and getting figures that i had when i was a kid. But after dealing with the QC problems time and time again, i held out till MY last figure which was King He-Man and Fang Man and both had issues and paint app problems. I immediately cancelled my cards and haven't bought a fig since. Sold everything i had and haven't looked back. It wasn't till Castle Grayskull landed and people had it in hand that i thought, man i wish i had that, Skeletor, and at least He-man Battle Cat to have on my shelf. I really kind of wish i'd have stuck it out through the whole thing.

Shipping was also a major killer for me buying outside the sub. I could not justify paying more for a figure i knew did not cost more to make, plus an insane shipping and handling fee. And I suspect it was more handling than shipping.

Yes and I bought 2 subs for 2014 for a few reasons, like saving on shipping (brings DHL shipping down to $9 per item!) and the fact Two-Bad is subscription only. I'm also quite sure that 2014 will be the last year I sub (just not enough characters left that are essential to me, so can take my chances with day of, BBTS, eBay etc.. in 2015) I'm glad I bought 2 subs, since next year will be the last sub I'll most likely buy

My main wants were Glimmer, Two-Bad, Scorpia, Modulok, Tung Lashor, Angella, Madame Razz/Broom, Imp and Mermista. Most of those are or will be in 2014
MOTUC I need for a complete collection: Madame Razz/Broom, Queen Angella, Dylamug, Filmation Kowl, Imp, Filmation Hordak, Entrapta and Mermista.
