  • 2016 MOTUC Character Selection Playoffs!

He-man.org has been conducting a series of polls to determine which figures fans want Mattel to include in a potential 2016 Classics line. Mattel has indicated that they will be looking at the results as they finalize their plans in the coming months. There are four polls posted each week. The top 10 characters in each poll move on to the next round. Polling starts towards the beginning of the week and ends Sunday nights.

Here is the playoff poll chart to show how the playoff schedule will run.

As of the date of this opening post, fans are voting in Round 2, Week 2.

    http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/...Week-2-4-Polls

    Full-Sized Updated Combined Chart: http://i.minus.com/iLd1BuFQAuXzP.jpg

Not surprisingly, every character that ranked 6th-10th place in the previous round were voted out in last week's voting polls, except for Artilla (NA).

It's easy to predict that most if not all of the characters marked in white above, those who ranked 6th-10th place in the previous round, will also be eliminated by this week's voting.

Yawn. Wake me when it is down to the final characters. Most of the included characters so obviously don't deserve a figure that this is largely a waste of time.

    "Bubble Carriage Maiden"? Come on!

The focus on certain characters in the polls - such as the aforementioned "Bubble Carriage Maiden" - are a little wild to me. It reminds me of the movie Used Cars, where the salesmen line up a mile of cars (bumper to bumper) to prove to the courts that they actually have a mile of cars. Most of those cars end up being clunkers that nobody wants, and are added to the line to show that they have enough cars to stretch it out. I like seeing polls like this, but some of those character choices feel a bit off.

I actually like the Bubble Carriage Maiden. She's much more appealing to me than some of the overly cartoony Filmation figures and Son of He-Man stuff. Who really wants "Kamandi" Dare?

      Round 2 results are in!

Thank you to everyone who has voted and be sure to vote in the Round 3 polls! The list is narrowing down! :) **Please note: With the reveal of Filmation Hordak and Imp for the 2014 SDCC exclusive, Round 3 will see some replacements. Hordak has been replaced with King Ahgo, the #11 character in that same poll. And Imp has been replaced with Bould-Or, the #11 character in that same poll. 407 fans voted in poll 5, 405 in poll 6, 395 in poll 7, and 395 in poll 8. The results are listed

Round 3 voting has started! Be sure to vote in both the regular polls (all four), and the new beast poll!

Thank you to everyone who has voted and be sure to vote in the Round 1, Poll 2! 339 fans voted in poll 1. The results are listed below, ranked from most popular at the top to least popular at the bottom. The top 10 goes on to Round 2. Round 1, Poll 1 1. Mantisaur (MOTU toy) 2. Spydor (MOTU toy) 3. Bionotops (MOTU toy) 4. Dragoon (Filmation)

Thank you to everyone who has voted and be sure to vote in the Round 4 polls! We're almost at the end! :) 417 fans voted in poll 1, 412 in poll 2, 409 in poll 3, and 408 in poll 4. The results are listed below, ranked from most popular at the top to least popular at the bottom. The top 10 from each poll goes on to Round 4. Week 9, Poll 1 1. Hunga the Harpy (Filmation) 2. General Sunder (Filmation) 3. Quakke (NA toy) 4. Illumina (MVCreations comic)

Here is an enhanced look at the results from Round 2. Characters listed in white are on the chopping block for Round 3. Week 9 results should be fairly easy to predict based on the continuing trend.

*Note: Imp (Filmation) and Hordak (Filmation) were removed because of their SDCC announcement. King Ahgo and Bould-Or take their place. In Round 2, they both took 11th place in their respective polls. This could help Vizar (NA) potentially survive Round 3 since he placed 6th right below Hordak (Filmation). Imp's 10th place finish indicates his removal will not have any impact on the polling's results.

Not surprisingly, all but one character who had placed 6th-10th place in the prior round were eliminated in today's results.

      1. Veena (200x cartoon) - Interesting to see her take 1st place considering she was not a top 5 finisher in the prior round.

Voted Granita and sundar top of both polls. Nice to see Lodar and Spinwit survived.

Nice to see some NA representation in the final round. I'd buy Granita and Hunga the Harpy. Horde Wraith looks like it would make a good action figure, one of the few MYP characters that I would bother with.

No graphics this week. Pretty easy to see where the voting is going given the trend that has been very closely followed. Ranks 6-10 from the previous week are on the chopping block this week and are far less likely to be chosen.

                  Likely final winners:

                  1. Evilseed (200x cartoon)
                  1. Calix (200x cartoon)
                  2. Lord Masque (Filmation)
                  2. Lizard Man (Filmation)
                  3. Skeletor's Robot Knights (Filmation)
                  3. Vultak (Filmation)
                  4. General Sunder (Filmation)
                  4. Veena (200x cartoon)
                  5. Despara (New 52 DC comic)
                  5. Prahvus (200x cartoon)

                  Likely losers:

                  6. Horde Wraith (200x cartoon)
                  6. Tuskador / Insyzor (NA toy)
                  7. Hunga the Harpy (Filmation)
                  7. Granita (Filmation, MOTU 80s daily newspaper comic)
                  8. Dylamug (Filmation)
                  8. Quakke (NA toy)
                  9. Lodar (vintage MOTU mini-comic)
                  9. Crita (standard - Jetlag)
                  10. Miro (200x cartoon)
                  10. Lizorr (NA toy)

The fan poll results were forwarded off to Mattel for their consideration...which did not take very long! While the fans were discussing the results, Toyguru popped into the thread with some major news!
Just wanted to thank EVERYONE who voted and helped organize this poll!
While we won't just be "doing the top 12" figures from this list in 2016 (should we get to a 2016 line) polls like this are very helpful.
To manage expectations, we won't be doing any figs from the 1987 film (outside of the three from the vintage line, one of which, Blade, is out already!) and we won't be looking at any concept figures outside of those that appear in the 2009 Art Book.
Otherwise very excited to start looking at 2016 and beyond. I can tell you quite a few of the figures on this results list are in the works already and at least two will be shown at SDCC!
                      Thanks again all!
