MOTU Minis' video by TG

I wouldn't exactly call that a project with a budget. Its just him sitting at a table, in a bleak looking office, yakking about toys. He can do this on lunch break when he's done trolling the Matty forums, removing posts about himself that he doesn't like.
The minis are indeed cute, however I'm over cute. I didn't start down the road of collecting MOTUC because I wanted cute.Last edited by Guest; 06-18-2014, 08:05 AM.

Yeah, obviously doing this because they are selling so poorly. I have every single MOTUC figure and I wouldn't waste a dime on these little pieces of junk. Maybe if they were $5 each, but they are WAY over priced."If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." ― Noam Chomsky

$5 is extreme. Even Imaginext and Playschool figures in similar style and scale are sold at around $4-$8 depending on store location and if they are single packed, double packed, come with a vehicle. Skylanders are even more and have NO articulation (though they and Disney infinity do have the added bonus of the video game component)

I just don't understand the appeal. When they came out though, members at the Org went bananas, so I have mainly ignored them. Really remind me of the GI JOE minis that came out, I just don't understand them - but at least they weren't priced through the roof like Mattel's.“Anything is a dildo, if you're brave enough"

Always looking to trade MOTUC to complete my collection.

Yeah, my kids (who are 2, 6, and 7) like them, but I think they are lame."If we don't believe in freedom of expression for people we despise, we don't believe in it at all." ― Noam Chomsky

If the only marketing MOTU has is word of mouth from the org, and only a fraction of orgers have children, and only a fraction of those children actually like MOTU... its pretty clear that like Baby Skeletor, these high priced minis are aimed at "Adult Collectors" and not children.
They are essentially expensive Skylanders toys, with no media behind it... that you have to pay shipping on.

Exactly. Anything at Matty is aimed at adult collectors and MOTU fans. Anyone who believe's Scott's lies that Baby Skeletor brought in a wider audience is delusional. Also, to be able to buy from Matty you have to be 18 to begin with, so these are definitely NOT for kids.
The fact is that all of this extra BS takes away resources from MOTUC whether Scott admits that or not. Different budgets blah blah blah... bull shit. MOTU is a single brand and there is only so much money that Mattel is willing to divert to this brand precisely because, like any company, they work within certain parameters. So when Scott dreams up these stupid ****ing ideas about cutsie bullshit he is basically sticking a knife in all our backs precicely because it means we have to deal with crap like unpainted swords for Blade and no second head for Filmation Hordak (yeah I know he's a different budget... BULL SHIT!!!).

True, these weren't aimed at kids, but also none of the current MOTU lines are in terms of marketing's concern, but still these are toys at the end of the day and they could appeal to kids as well. However, with kids or no kids, our arguments here still have merits when it comes to budgeting and all the BS that comes with it...
If Mattel actually has a limited budget on the MOTU brand, they're clearly wasting it on bullshit like this, otherwise they're just continuously lying to us from a spending's stand point!

The mini line could appeal to kids, and fans of super deformed unneccessarily cute versions of everything, but its all a apart of the shell game being played. TG seems to cry poorhouse when the subs come in and are unsatisfactory.
These minis are a niche, within a niche, and yet there is money for it. Just like there is money for crappy stands, and crappy package protectors.
I think fans have to accept that their opinions on where the money goes is completely moot, and as soon as they start speaking with their money, and not eating what TG peppers the forums with, they'll see the product improve. This however will not happen.

I think this is something aimed more at parents who want to share MOTU with their kids and those of us who enjoy animated styling like Super Hero Squad and Skylanders. It's a younger demograhic that grew up with more Anime and Manga in the 90's as kids and teenagers I think. Part of me wants this line even more then Classics. Visually they are more unique, how many classics look just like the vintage? Too many IMO.
The already insane price is exacerbated by Digital River's refusal to combine shipping. They are loosing sales from people like me because of that. The price is ludicrous even besides that though. AT MOST these should be $15, and even that is pushing it, but it's roughly double of similar retail lines.
The collect & connect Grayskull isn't enough to "plus up the perceived value". It's that same thinking that helped to TANK Young Justice with the overinflated price due to the diorama pieces. I dn't know why they think it would help sell MOTU minis? If anything they are perfectly scales for Classic's Castle Grayskull and the statue one. We don't really need a cheep ass 3rd Grayskull.
But the biggest swing and a miss foul ball is that these REALLY belonged at retail as part of a video game like Skylanders. The whole Matty team need to JUST STOP. They are strangling the growth of MOTU :-( Matty killed this line even before it came out the ****ing assholes!

This was just posted on the Org's main page:
Toyguru has started a new thread on the fourms that addresses a few subjects concerning the Mini-Masters, most notably the future of the sub-line.He-fans and org members,
A bit of a check in. We're half way through the 2014 minis program. Everyone on the team loves this line, and we really want it to keep going. And from the online feedback it appears most folks who buy em love em!
Currently, the packs are selling a little below expectations. If you are passing on these, curious why? Is 6" eating up your budget? Is the price too high?
One thing we are looking into if we continue in 2015 is removing a potential diorama piece to get the price under 20.00. But not sure if that will even work.
Love to know everyone's thoughts on why you might be passing on these or what changes we might be able to make to the minis to peak more interest.
We have a 2015 line in mind, but unless sales pick up, we may not be able to reach it.
So let us know what you have to say! What else could make minis appeal to you?

People are speaking with their wallets. They don't want to buy crap. Yes, there are people out there who like collecting the Mini-Masters, but its pretty obvious that most MOTU fans are not interested in the line.

I think if the minis were released earlier in the line, or the MOTUC line was at a better cost, they would have sold beyond expectations. People are just bogged down. $700 a year subs on toys + add ons? The average person with children, mortgage and car payments can't commit to this. Its insanity to ask more money for this line, and then throw out another line on the cusp of a new year and potential price hike.
There is really nothing wrong with the mini line per say. They are cute and collectible, like everything. Heck, even I Shit My Diaper Skeletor appealed to 'some' people... but people are tapped out. A consumer conscious person would know that.

I'm working on a theory but I need to know something, are the Mini Masters sculpted by the Four Horsemen?“Freedom of speech doesn't protect speech that you like, freedom of speech protects speech that you hate." ― Ron Jeremy
