  • Pixel-Dan's SDCC FAILmation Hordak review

I might get him down the road if I find him discounted just incase they release a Filmation head for him, however I won't miss him if I don't, plus I'm not a big fan of that cartoon!... IMO he's a lazy disappointing figure.

He definitely is a pretty lazy figure. I'm a huge Imp fan, so I'll have to snag him just for Imp, I imagine. Fortunately, there haven't been many figures this lazy in the line that weren't something weird like TRU exclusives or something, but still: This is what Mattel put up as their SDCC exclusive?

I love PD's reviews, but this was weak. Damn weak. He should have HAMMERED Mattel for this BS figure. This thing is a ****ing joke. Yay, blue Hordak. Big whoop.

No Filmation head on a Filmation figure with a supposed tribute to Lou Scheimer is like pissing on the man's grave.

This is without question the biggest travesty the line has ever seen.

      Disgusting, absolutely bloody disgusting.

Most underwhelming SDCC-Figure we've got so far. The whole figure is screaming laziness and on top of it, you can't even use the Roboto and Trap-Jaw parts to beef him up.

        Easy pass for me.

Dan did say at the beginning that he considers FAILMATION Hordak to be INSPIRED by his cartoon appearance and that he doesn't consider it to be a true Filmation Hordak.

And as bad as Failmation Hordak is, I think Battlegroud Evil-Lyn was worse. We specifically asked for a 200X leotard -- the whole reason for asking for her in the first place-- and we were given a repaint of Teela's leotard. TG even told us that he imagined that she wouldn't be a repaint. Heck, Mattel even had the 4H come out and tell us that they refused to use the extra tooling dollars.

Failmation Hordak coming with a show accurate head, cowl and armor was a no-brainer, but Battleground Evil-Lyn was an outright refusal to make what the fans asked for.

Is this true? I don't believe the 4H have anything to do with the budget allocation decisions. The proof is that they usually sculpt things Mattel didn't ask for.

Eric Treadaway took the blame for BGEL's tunic being a repaint. But I doubt that was true.

I think TG knows that the 4H are beyond reproach with fans, so I gather that occasionally the 4H are asked to bite the bullet for Mattel's bad creative decisions. If the 4H back up something crazy, most fans tend to support their decisions.

It's not like they haven't sculpted a 200X Evil-Lyn before, so they clearly knew which design the fans wanted. Just like you, I also don't believe that they deliberately decided to go the cheap-ass route by themselves. It's not their call, they don't handle the budget so it makes no sense.

This FAILmation Hordak stunt is a complete display of crap, the "classicized" proof of the brand manager's carelessness...

Does anyone else think that Dan is losing some of the excitement and eagerness like maybe there's not as much interest, his earlier videos were always like high tempo stuff and he always seemed excited to show the weapons and stuff on the figures,
                  Maybe it's just me.

No, I can see that too. Before he was doing these out of love, now he has become part of the Mattel marketing machine so how could he retain that level of enthusiasm? It is faked. I mean how could anyone feign excitement about this piece of crap figure?

I agree. Dan has somewhat become part of Mattel marketing, just like the org. I'm actually pleasently surprised that he was brave enough to criticize the figure at least a little bit.

Dan probably has to remain neutral or a little excited with his videos for a couple reasons, a) to keep products coming for free and to maintain good relations with the toy companies and vendors, b) Usually most viewers and subscribers prefer to see a positive attitude especially when his face showing on the camera.

In a way, I think it's to be expected since he has new responsibilities as a new father and all. But in Failmation Hordak's case, I could see him not being too excited.

I get a bit tired of the "new father" rationale or excuse. I have three kids, aged 2, 6, and 7, and never once in my life or career have I used it as an excuse for anything. Being tired etc. comes with the territory. Currently my 6 year old it having a tantrum and I've still got the enthusiasm to post this! lol.

See, I'm NOT a father and I'd expect parenthood to take up alot of spare time or enthusiasm from toys.

I've got three kids,14,9 and 7 and i have to work nights,so in the case of new father and tired, pleeaaassee.
I do think there is a lack of enthusiasm that was always in his earlier videos they just sound so flat now.
