  • Set free at last from their plastic prisons!!

So I decided to finally take the plunge and take my figures out of the packaging (a task that in itself damn-near requires a surgeon) to have a closer look at them and set them up. HUH!!! I can see why so many people have been complaining about the quality of certain figures. My classic He-Man's ankles are so loose I'm afraid they'll break off if I breathe on them too hard! Other figures have limbs are are entirely too stiff and others have movements restricted by things like hair, armor, etc. Some of the paint applications are sloppy, I'm finding the odd paint splatter here and there. More than anything I'm finding that certain figures like Dragon-Blaster Skeletor and Snout-Spout don't have the same working features as the vintage figures. They seem to be just for show. Thoroughly disappointing. At least they look pretty cool.

    a) I hope you enjoy the figures regardless.
    b) We've been told from the early days that most of these figures won't have any playing features for a couple of reasons: a) To keep most of the articulations intact, b) and to keep their prices within reach.

yes. It takes a surgeon to free the figure

if one can get past flaw(s) a figure has they are a nice figure. A nice homage to the vintage version.

I was never aware that the Classics line would be devoid of any of the original features, I just assumed they'd have them. It'd be nice if at some point (I'm just spit-balling here) Mattel released a line of MOTU figures that had the same cool look as most of the MOTUC line but had the same features we all loved from the vintage figures. The flaws are minor enough for me that I'm sure I'll get a fair amount of enjoyment from them. It's not like I play with them, I simply pose them to look cool n' stuff. I'd also really love to see ALL the vehicles and playsets re-done, especially Eternia. As much as I'd love the original, I've heard nothing but horror stories about the brittle monorail tracks from owners. It needs to be updated.

Sadly, Neitlich is putting a big damper on the rest of the vehicles and the playsets for now, but then again, I don't take anything that comes out from his filthy PR mouth for granted!

I think you are mistaken, "Exploding Chest" Roboto works just fine thank you.

I have a small loose collection (He-Man, Skeletor, Granamyr, Modulok, Clawful and Rayven, my awesome custom), and some of them have loose joints.

Lets face it, giving a figure ankle joints is a terrible idea. They are not living creatures with tissue and tendons. Over time they loosen and flop. That's why I sold off all my ML, I got sick of them falling over or crumpling into a mess. I even glued a few together to keep their 'dynamic' poses.

Thanks to a really lame decision to give them shoddy ankles, I'm a happy MOC collector.

Also some of those ankles on some of the figures are so stiff you barely can move them! I believe the quality control is the questionable issue IMO...

That really sucks about the vehicles and playsets. It's a shame they've devoted their time to making updated versions of the NA He-man stuff (I loathed that line), etc. and not to updating the good stuff from the 80's line. I'd really, REALLY love to see that treehouse playset that was never realized released. I'm tempted to try to make my own custom version. Might be difficult based on just the one drawing. Anyone else know anything else about that particular playset?

I'm devastated about not seeing more vehicles and Playsets myself. The main reason why I've started collecting this line was to have at least the basic vintage toy line as a whole! Figures alone don't cut it for me, and that's why I might end up selling most of the MOCs, and the loose NA and POP.

I agree. The priority of this line should not have been all these random figures, but to get us a recreation of the vintage line... vehicles, play sets and all.

See I disagree with that to some extent. I'd like both old AND new figures and characters. If I want the vintage line, complete, with everything- I can just go on eBay, Craigslist, garage sales, comic shops, etc. and buy those.

I'd rather have what we are getting- a cohesive line that incorporates EVERYthing- concepts, prototypes, 200x, NA, POP- into one consistent look, size, and format, with the cross-sell artwork and series bibles being used as the basis for most figures.

For me getting guys like He-Ro, Eldor, Vikor, Demo-Man- these are more exciting than another Two-Bad or Whiplash. I want new things, not just re-dos of 80's figures I can easily get the originals of this afternoon online if I wanted to. Since I collected the vintage line for several years in the 90's, and was pretty close to complete when I cashed out, I want what I wasn't able to get. The only vintage re-do's I really want to see at this point would be the Battle Ram, Point Dread, and the Lazer Light figures, as the LLs, along with the giants, were really the only pieces I was missing back in the day. And I only really want these because the originals are so, so expensive and tough to get.

At first I was just going to do what I did with 200x and NA- get a Skeletor, a He-Man, and any new characters or variants. I know a couple people who still do that to this day with MOTUC, they just buy the new characters, as they already have carded vintage He-Mans and whatnot. I haven't had much vintage since I cashed out over a decade ago, so rather than collect both, I just get MOTUC now (and my apartment is running out of room!)

Sorry to hear you're disappointed Robarr. The only figure I have with a stuck limb is Geldor, and that sucks as he was probably my favorite from 2013 next to Ram Man. I use the little rubber bands to support He-Man's weak ankles. Some people heat swap his feet with the much better boots from Vikor or Vykron so he stands better. Other put a dab of rubber cement or model glue in the joint to keep him upright.

Oh, he stands OK, I'm just concerned with how wobbly they are compared to the other figures I have like Prince Adam and Vikor. If I have him sitting atop Battle Cat he should be fine. I'd rather not start messing with glues and things if I can avoid it. Sitting, that's another issue. Now matter what I do, He-Man's legs stick out awkwardly, HAHA!! Whattayagonnado? I can see your point about the inclusion of everything, I just wish they would've left the NA stuff out. I really hate the look of it. Far too Sci-Fi and not enough Sword & Sorcery. I was appalled when they tried to reboot MOTU in that way, it was no surprise to me it failed so miserably. Myself, I was never a fan of the Laser Light figures, I thought the sculpts were too different looking from the main MOTU stuff, plus Skeletor seems to be squatting down too much. It reminds me of the MOTU knockoffs "Galaxy Warriors" in that way. The POP stuff, well that was mainly meant for girls but the link to MOTU can't be denied. I mean, She-Ra is He-man's sister for cryin' out loud! I might not ever buy any of that but I might maybe buy the She-Ra MOTUC figure just to have it.

I gotta be honest. The first figure I ever bought was a loose Mer-Man figure off of eBay from Hong Kong. When it arrived I was completely disappointed. I thought it felt cheap and it just wasn't what I was expecting at all. I have no clue how I became a completist after that, but I distinctly remember that being my initial impression. I think I bought more just to see if I was right, thinking maybe it was just the HK figure... and then I quickly became addicted and bought everything there is.
