When Blade was announced (or rather his movie-sword teased), the color scheme of the sword was based on a repainted-for-charity version of the movie sword:

When asked about the discrepancy between a movie-accurate sword and the presented paintmaster, Mattel said they would stick to the color scheme that the 4 Horsemen delivered:

However, the final sword appears to have lost some color during production (most likely to save costs, but I will not digress how Mattel promised not to cut accessories or colors when upping the price of the figures).

So if Mattel clearly deviated from the Horsemens paintmaster anyway, why didn´t Mattel go with the movie-accurate color scheme instead?

Awesome looking figure, but man, it looks like they really cheaped out on those final swords. They now look like dollar store swords. I was thinking about getting a second Blade just for the the extra swords, but now it looks like I could accomplish the same thing by stopping in at the Dollarama in town....

It's all good, I'll just paint the sword the correct colors if need be. So, I assume he will not be coming with two vintage style swords??? That's the only thing that aggravates me. They can give the Horde Troopers a ton of dumb-ass looking shields and weapons, but Blade will only get one vintage sword.

I am sure that was done on purpose as a way to encourage people to buy 2 Blade figures. It is the only logical explanation I can think of.

Yeah I have to agree with this as well. When you show a product and it gets fans all hyped up for it. Wether it's a figure or accessory. Then the final product isn't what it was supposed to just sucks. Anti-Guru shouldn't have to spend his time painting an item that Mattel should have finished in the first place. And yes we were promised higher prices on the figures BUT they would have more paint apps as well. So many figures I can think of that needed just that final touch of paint hits. Stinkor comes to mind for me. There are others as well.

I'm not too concerned if it comes all silver, or with the charity colours. It would be an easy fix with some silver paint. Plus, it was actor Anthony De Longis himself who painted the sword for the charity, so as far as I am concerned, it was Blade himself who picked those colours

I have to agree about the swords in that last pic. They do look a bit cheap. That stinks, because the figure itself is incredible. I guess that detailed armor killed the budget for the figure

Is it me, or is the vintage sword somewhat curved ? Maybe this is due to those stupid elastics and plastic shells they use in the MOTUC packaging... they tend to warp the weapons.

But I agree : the swords do look cheap. The lack of paint on the movie sword is really noticeable.

I shouldn't have to repaint figures I paid a premium for. Scott and Mattel are disgusting liars. It sickens me that we enter into a contract that is not upheld by the other party at no fault of our own. A promise is a promise and Mattel should eat the cost... of Scott himself for lying to us.

Blade's long sword IS somewhat curved, which is a departure from the 80's original figure... I really can't understand why they gave us this unuseful red whip with Blade. Yes, I know it was part of the movie, but the wavy way it was sculpted looks very unnatural (as with most whips). I think the red Beastman whip we got in the weapons pack looks better, actually. Plus this weird laser whip Blade comes with deprived us from a second long sword...

Watching The Fwoosh preview, I noticed something else about the movie sword : it seems like it cannot be held normally in Blade's hand ! On The Fwoosh pictures, Blade holds that particular sword SIDEWAYS ! It seems like the sword's handle is too wide for Blade's hands to hold it normally !

I'd like to know more about the bulkiness of the armor, and the way it affects or not the arms and legs movements...

I thought Scott said they were not allowed to base the movie figures off of the actual movie, but instead they had to be based purely on the vintage toys. This is the excuse he uses for us never getting Karg. So how is it then that we are getting a laser whip and a film style sword, and how is it then that the Classics Blade looks almost exactly like the movie and almost nothing like the vintage character? More lies?

Also, I'm pretty pissed off we are getting a laser whip for Blade instead of two properly painted swords. His name is "Blade" after all, not "Laser Whip". But Scooter has suggested the whip is something he has always wanted... so instead of doing right by fans, he follows his own selfish interests. I'm not saying we should not have a laser whip, but instead that it should have come in a weapons pack. If they were looking for things to cut, they needed to start with the whip. Yet another reason to be pissed off at the stupid decisions that are made.

I suspect they might have received the permission from Anthony De Longis to make Blade to his liking... but I'm not sure. It's just speculation on my part. But yes, I thought the same thing as you did, Draego-Man, because LIEguru clearly said at some point that they were not allowed to base the movie figures off of the actual movie.

He was talking about the actors likenesses. If you look at most of the movies that Mattel makes figures based on ("Superman Returns", "Harry Potter", etc), they purposely make the figures look nothing like the actual actors who played them. They may have worked something out with Anthony to make it look more like him (I know first hand that he wanted the figure to look more like him). But with actors like Dolph Lundgren, there would be higher fees to pay for his likeness through his agents.

I'm glad Anthony De Longis was nice enough to give his permission for this... The headsculpt is spot on !

I know for sure that he said that Mattel is allowed to make the 3 vintage movies characters ONLY, because they were originally vintage figures. But as far as not being allowed to use their movie likeness? ... that is news to me. I personally am glad they chose to go with the film style, but... unfortunately his armor is way to friggin bulky. Ruben either doesn't know what he is doing, or he is purposefully taking liberties and deviating from the 4H design.

Either way, it doesn't excuse a character called "Blade" coming with a garbage looking sword and a laser whip, when the latter could have been left for a weapons pack.

I like the whip idea... but it just looks bad to me. I'm sorry, I meant it looks Rubenized. If they could put Draego-Man's awesome weapons in a weapons pack, they should do the same with the whip. I still don't get why weapon packs are done... did Neitlich say that they are finished? Maybe he's lying. LOL!

Yeah, but Scooter lies all the time. We may still get another weapons pack. Basically I'm just choked that we got short changed on his swords and I would prefer quality swords and no whip to half-baked swords and a whip.

That longer sword really, really looks like trash... I can't believe they have the nerve to include that with Blade. Every figure that comes out these days has SOME issue... it's inevitable. Neitlich should be ashamed of his existence.

Absolutely ! Personally, I'm happy Blade looks more like his movie likeness. But I wouldn't have cried if the translucent red whip would have been left for a Weapons Pack. Oh wow, this turned out like crap. Now he looks like he's wearing his Dad's sweater. If they wanted to cut costs they could have made the armour movie accurate size and not XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL. And the sword handle being too big for his hand? That's an absolute joke. As is the pathetic feeble transparent lie from Neitich about paint hits.

Not just the handle, but the entire sword is too big and out of proportion. It seems like Ruben designs the clothes/armor to use MORE plastic because of the thickness. Wouldn't MORE plastic cost more? Or is he really that bad of a toy designer?

Someone at another forum brought the idea that the plastic they've been using for the last couple of armor pieces is somewhat softer "then" (at you ***guru) the one they used on the first couple of figures (Hordak, Man-At-Arms, etc...). Can any of you guys check if this is in fact true? I have no figures with a bulky armor so I can't check it out...

This would also justify why Blade's swords are bigger, since they also need a lot more plastic to prevent them from warping. Can you imagine a character called Blade with three whips?

Some say it's laziness, some say it's because they really do lack the skill to do it right, some say it's done out of spite. It could be anything. I can definitely see it being done out of spite because I know that Ruben is like that. Neitlich approves of it because he's no better than him and does get a kick out of annoying the fans.
