  • Gwildor: Reviews and Discussion

I love Gwildor and the 1987 film, so I'm already predisposed to like this figure, but I have to say that I'm very impressed by how well Gwildor was done. I can definitely accept that some fans don't feel he fits in with the MOTUC aesthetic, but I do think this is about the best Gwildor figure we could have asked for. Did he need to be as deluxe as he was hyped? Probably not. I would ahve been satisfied had he included a bucket of ribs and his grappling hook, though.

I didn't want Gwildor but since I have his vintage proof card I felt obligated to get him.

I bought him from a good person from the dot org. he's still in his shipping box. I'm in no big hurry to open him up.

I have nothing against the character it's just that I have no connection to him.

I too am a fan of the 87 film and this figure. He turned out great. He is worth the inflated price? No he isn't, but then again, MOTUC's cost has been inflated for some years now. We've just conceded to pay, either directly or indirectly.

The only people who may gripe about Gwildor are those who have swallowed TG's Kool-Aid about there being some sort of specific MOTUC aesthetic. I know that is a crock, and you know that is a crock. There is however a running theme in MOTUC, but that is a whole other thread.

I think Gwildor came out pretty good, although I would have liked his face to have the movie acurate "gils" which are clearly missing on the MOTU figure. The staff is a joke, having been cast in a solid plastic instead of a clear plastic, and painted except for the crystal... the way it should have been. Having a second, larger Cosmic Key included with the figure seems like a dumb ass idea when there are so many other accessories Gwildor could have instead, like grapple gun, bucket o' ribs, etc.

I never liked Gwildor, but the figure came out pretty well, minus the staff. The crystal looks like something R-rated.

Gwildor looks like a NECA figure IMO. Yeah... the staff is obscene.

He does look like a NECA figure. That isn't a bad thing, but I will probably display him with my 200x NECA mini statues.

I think Saurod will also be highly detailed, even Blade has some serious detail going on... as if it were a consious decision to make all 3 movie charcters super detailed. I like it regardless of them not really fitting in with MOST of the classics line.

The large prototype Cosmic Key actually fits in GIANT He-Man's hand.

Cool to see that it can be used with the action giant figures. If they do end up making a giant Zodac, I might give him the key to hold on to.

Too bad Giant He-Man sucks though. I can't believe people actually bought that disaster.

the fact that he doesn't look like the rest of the line doesn't bother me because he is a dorko subsitute. it's too bad they didn't just use the movie colors & had to stick to the original colors for his "shirt"

that cosmic key holder is by the awesome DJ force, i don't know why he didn't link to it in his thread here, because it is amazing. the outer base fits in the castle floor hole, but the inner base has "teeth" that perfectly plug into the cosmic key! i painted it gold to look like it does in the movie. here's the link to buy it
