  • An Open Letter to MattyCollector regarding old Youtube Videos

This idea came to me whilst procrastinating today. Please read the letter and provide any constructive criticisms and edits you wish. Keep in mind, the ultimate goal is for this letter to be sent to Mattel and Matty Collector.

    "Dear SIrs,

I have a fantastic idea that you may utilize unconditionally. Superimpose the cartoon Matty mascot face over Scott Neitlich's in all your Youtube videos and advertisements.

    This will serve several purposes.

First, it will negate the self promotion that Scott perpetrated throughout his Mattel tenure. Take away his "Toyguru" persona and redirect the attention back to Mattel and the product.

Second, it is cheap promotion from existing advertisement. I guarantee this will go viral and generate interest in the line, further generating interest in the 200X Subscription.

Third, it will entertain and cultivate interest from former subscribers who ceased collecting MOTUC, partly due to the antics of this former employee.

Finally, how often do you get to retroactively troll a megalomaniac. Do it for the lulz.

    Regards,
Lifelong Masters of the Universe Fan."

I look forward to your thoughts, and look forward coordinating a mass mailing of this in the near future.

Oh, why am I doing this?

Well... I don't think Mattel would go for any of that... lol....

That said, I do think it might be a good idea for Mattel to remove a few of the older videos featuring Toyguru. Get rid of all of the videos done between 2010-2014. He no longer represents the brand, and he has also been going out of his way to bash Mattel online recently, which is VERY unprofessional. So I think it would be very good for Mattel to start removing some of those old videos.

Well, then maybe this will help to notice that this is still out there and get it removed - instead of altered.

I would prefer not to post any links that direct to him on the main forum. Just look at the other toy forums that Toyguru frequently posts at this month, and you will find that he he is somewhat critical of the way certain things are being handled by Mattel now. Bashing might not be the best word to describe it, but he is certainly "dismissive" of the way the new team is running MOTUC at Mattel. He definitely has a case of sour grapes.

Well, I found this post by him, and I wonder if this is what you guys meant by him being critical of his former employer:

Mattel is only going to make figures as long as there are fans buying them. Remember the DC and Ghostbuster lines? It's not like I wanted to stop making those...

And hopefully the current situation sheds some light on what some felt were my "aggressive" marketing tactics. I was only doing what was needed to sell the line (IMHO). It was never anything personal. I want these toys too after all!

Hopefully mattel will give the current team the resources it needs. It's always been spit and wax keeping this thing going. I know there were always issues like reversed shoulders and black plastic, but that is nothing compared to Mattel politics and internal agendas. It was never a cake walk to get this stuff made.
