  • Blackstar merged with MOTU... would you be opposed to the idea?

I wonder if Mattel's rights to Filmation are limited to ONLY Masters of the Universe. I think it would be cool if the Blackstar characters were blended in with the MOTUC line. Not only would Neitlich have a jolly ole time fitting them into his canon, but the figures themselves would be awesome and fit right in. And they could create a new comic book series based on the idea.

The same could be said about BraveStarr. Why not throw those characters into the mix?

Your idea is interesting, but I have to say no. They need to concentrate on wrapping the existing line up, not expanding it.

I'd rather have "guest star" figures rather than some of these other poor choices like Standar. Fans have been linking Blackstar and Bravestarr to MOTU for years. Maybe as a traveling exclusive, Power-Con exclusive or SDCC exclusive.

I don't see why Neitlich can't start a Bravestar Classics line... nothing to do with MotUC officially, but in the same scale and has the same buck and interchangable weapons and stuff...

yup, this would be a great idea. sold on the site as a separate line. nothing new, just recreate all the old figures.

I wouldn´t want to mix on other unrelated brands. MOTU is rich enough in characters as is.
I wouldn´t be opposed to Blackstar and Bravestarr as stand-alone series. But not mixed in with MOTUC.

In the original He-Man cartoon episode "Temple of the Sun", a Blackstar statue (holding the Starsword) is seen next to Nepthu.

The rights should be with Classic Media... the same guys who have the rights to the Filmation stuff.

I don't like the idea simply because it gives Mattel the opportunity to milk the brand out in every possible way without much extra cost to them!
I want them to focus back on vehicles, playsets, and characters/creatures from 200X and the mini Comics instead.

John Blackstar was an astronaut from Earth, who got pulled into a black hole and crashed on an alien world. In this regard, his story is VERY similar to Captain Marlena Glenn's story. I don't think it would be very hard to tie his story together with her story, to make it work for MOTU.

Blackstar - YES! He'd fit in perfectly. Just retcon that his mission was to locate Marlena Glenn. Encountered same wormhole as she had, but due to something (solar flare, gamma burst, whatever) the wormhole was temporarily unstable and sent him to another part of the universe.

Bravestarr - No. Two different universes. You see, Bravestarr is the future from the point of view of 19th century while MOTU is in the future from point of view of the 1980's (Not Eternia itself, of course, but Earth from which Marlena comes from). Yes, I'm aware that originally Bravestarr was indeed part of MOTU, but that got dropped. Then again, it's not like He-Man has never visited parallel universes...

BTW, another interesting addition could be Space Sentinels.

At the risk of sounding highly inflammatory, don't hold your breath. It's not going to happen. Blackstar's cartoon is owned by CM but the toys were produced by Galoob. Galoob was purchased by Hasbro in 1999. Mattel can't make action figures of something they don't own, so no. Sorry.

Bravestarr's figures were produced by Mattel but I'm sure they have no interest in reviving that property. If they did, you can expect it would receive it's own re-launch and not a spin off from another completely separate toy-line to start out. Besides, MOTUC can't even afford to wrestle the movie rights back into their hands for production. Also they complain every year that they are barely making it as an independent toyline. Why on earth do you think they'd throw away money to make two other toy lines that won't sell enough to cover manufacture costs?

On a personal level, I'd have no interest in either property.

Well, if Mattel doesn't make them, then HASBRO definitely should! I would certainly buy them. Plus, they could get Emiliano Santalucia to design the BLACKSTAR figures

I just figured since both cartoons are Filmation, they could get away with making a few to integrate into the line. But this goes back to the original question... Are Mattel's Filmation rights limited to ONLY MOTU characters? If not, then they should seize the moment and at least make John Blackstar and BraveStarr to revitalize the properties... then if they prove to be popular, they can expand them into a dedicated line using the MOTUC bucks.

Let's see if I can try this another way. The answer is still no. That's not how Intellectual Property works. Each property is a separate purchase. They are buying specific rights to ONLY MOTU and POP likenesses (Filmation designs) from it's current rights holder, Classic Media. They do not get a blanket license to cover anything and everything Filmation ever produced. Likely, while the purchase was probably negotiated together I'll bet that POP had it's own separate contract from MOTU since it was a separate TV show, regardless of crossover.

For example, if Mattel wants to make Toy Story Figures, they obtain the license from Pixar/Disney. That doesn't suddenly give them an automatic license to make toys from Cars, Up, or The Incredibles. Each is a separate distinct property.

I would love it! I Think that a Blackstar line done with the MOTUC buck would be awesome. Maybe a crossover comic. I always liked the Ideal how Blackstar went looking for Marlena. Maybe the Overlord was once a member of the Horde who left like Skeletor did.
Now here is my question for ya. Who all would u like to see in the line? I would have to have these:
Blackstar (could do a Tree Of Evil repaint)
Warlock (3 diff paint jobs can be done. Green and Yellow like from the original toy line and a Filmation Paint.
                          Klone
                          Mara
The Trobbits- Balkar, Rif, Terra, Burble, Carpo, Poulo, Gossamer (repaints from Tree of Evil also)
                          Amber
                          Storm
                          Queen Brindell
                          Overlord
                          Vizier
                          Taleena
                          Kadray with Triton
                          Nihilis
                          Neptul
                          Typhot

How about having meetings with the 4H and creating new figures for MOTUC? Giving the okay on paint masters and sculpts. We are going to see the results of what he does during the day at NYTF in February.

Then there is other things like the DC comic, deals with people like Seth Green, Geoff Johns and Stan Lee or planning surprises such as the Battle Ram or Castle Grayskull.

I know fans tend to automatically think of TG as an Anti-Christ who looks for ways to screw them and I agree that TG has made alot of mistakes and unpopular decisions, but he isn't strangling babies or pouring bleach on the homeless.

I realize we're dealing with super-hypotheticals, but I say 'Bring them on!' There's only four characters they'd likely make anyway (Blackstar, Klone, Mara, and Overlord), but I'd love to see them. Honestly, I'd like to see all sorts of other (knock-off) toylines brought into the MotU brand, ones like Fuerza-T, Beast-Raiders, even the old Galaxy Warriors and stuff. I'd be a Hell of a lot happier to see all of said toylines revamped in 200X style, but I'll take Classics versions.

TG let them put NA figures in this MOTU Classics line. So it seems they'll put anything in it. And they have....TMS,SLL & Cy Chop to name a few.

New Adventures is a part of the MOTU legacy. As an all-inclusive line, NA certainly has its place in MOTUC. Characters like TMS, SLL, and Cy-Chop are questionable at best.

Your opinion & I respect it. I understand that MOTUC was said that it's all inclusive. Big mistake especially if the vintage lines don't get completes. There is some good (Filmation) the bad (some 30th figures) & the ugly (NA).

Hey if Mattel could acquire the Blackstar license and possibly bring back BraveStar I don't see why the couldn't simply keep the design and tooling to make the figures compatible yet in their own line (but it would allow us to merge them into the MOTU universe without harm or foul or interfering with the line's budget). I would even love Sectaurs and Crystar to crossover as well, but then again that's just me!

I liked Blackstar as a kid and in the 90's Bravestar was a lot of fun to collect. But since neither one was super popular in the 80's, I doubt they'd ever make it to MOTUC, but if they did, I of course would buy them.
