  • The MOTUC Bios are done

As of Lord Masque, the bios are done.

I think it's the 8th and 9th mini-comic thread on He-Man.org where TG mentioned that he was speaking with Mark (the brand manager at the time) at SDCC 2015 and Mark told him that there wouldn't be anymore bios going forward.

Is the Neitlichverse being officially over a good or bad thing to you? Want to speculate why the bios ended and the new team (or teams) didn't want to continue with them? Discuss!

I think it's a good sign, for me at least. I stopped reading them years ago unless someone points out the bad hiccups in them!... They were following a certain canon that was either made up by Neitlich or he was comfortable with, and you probably know how I feel about that guy and his accomplishments!

    Good Riddance.

The bios just never worked well for this toyline. I am happy to see them go.

All that was needed was a good writer. Case in point, check out James Eatock's bios for the MOTU statues!

A good writer - with a good knowledge of the history of Masters of the Universe - always helps. James did a great job on those bios

I can't think of one bio that I ever really liked. Most were just terrible. This is great news. The vintage toys each had a cool description under the name of the figure, and that is all we ever needed on the package for MOTUC.

        Yay.
And ironically, I believe the bios are where all the troubles started: when on the podcast I said that the Orko bio was not good writing.
Scott just couldn't handle that criticism...

Coming from an Italian guy, it probably made him feel like a shitty writer! LOL

          I remember that podcast.????
I had always hated Orko, even as a kid. Your passionate speech on that atrocious bio made me reconsider my stance on the character. Still not a fan of Orko, but I don't loathe the character any more either. Progress. ????

Good Riddance on Scott's Bios....and I never believed he wrote them years ago even before some figures like Draego-Man joined line. Just gonna hope his Bios are soon are forgotten complete

It is well past time. I will always, always resent that we were cheated out of the elegant art with simple, one line statements or descriptions that appeared on the original series cardbacks.

            Neitlich's bios were shit.????

Actually, that's kind of why I wouldn't have minded seeing the bios continue......... because I'm sure they could have thrown anyone else on them and it would have been an improvement (relatively speaking of course). And what a blast it could have been watching Neitlich's lovers defend those old garbage bios compared to any new one. It's bad enough now reading about them pining for the good ole days of those 'great' bios of yesteryear. lol

So glad to hear this. Most of the bios were awful.

While the bios were 85% bad, their online replacement is a million times worse: "Favorite movie" Now they're making jokes about the characters... Really? This is not The Original TMNT Line (which was a parody of a parody of 80s comics.) This went from Horrible writing from a guy who lacks understanding of the franchise he is writing for to total disrespect.

At least it isn't on the packaging.

I'm pretty sure that's the web team just having a little fun, and possibly parodying the old bios as much as anything else. (Multiple 'Real names' for example.) The big difference is that unlike the older Neitlich material, no one's going to take these seriously for future material.

They are on the figure's sale page in the Matty store. Check out Masque's sale page.

I don't think the concept of a bio on the package is a bad one. It's a description telling who the character is, what he can do and how he works in that world. Transformers and G.I. Joe have had bios that helped mold those characters.

The problem is the execution. The bios were trying to tell a story, piece by piece. Then you had the writing style, spelling, out of character moments like Orko killing off a race or Clamp Champ failing to capture someone, etc.

Agreed. The Transformers and GI Joe bios were primarily about "who this character is and what he does". The MotU bios were one part reprinting the old style guide and packaging material, and two parts attempting to say "here's what happened to this character in the Convoluted Classics Continuity."

The concept isn't bad... but the person writing them was terrible. You need someone with talent, and a basic understanding of the series. He has his own agenda for doing those bios.

i'm sad to see this. no sarcasm.

I held the bios as the gospel truth. no sarcasm.

I just wish they would have went back and stuck in the filmation bits to the already released bios.

I was re-reading some old TF G1 bios - they were great and told me what I needed to know without getting all caught up in messy continuity.

Here is a question that didn't get covered in the bios -

Why did the Snake Men all have the same staff as King Hsss - except Squeeze? Is it magic, just a club-type weapon? Why wasn't it unique to King Hsss or why didn't they all get one?

I'd have rather that sort of thing have been covered and I reckon it would have been in a more "fact-based" bio set up than what we got.

the bios didn't bother me so much & i liked that he tried to make everything fit together so that you can have wun-dar & he-man be separate characters. the story obviously is not something i like what with the elevation of orko as a guardian. & i will keep making bios for my customs even though i'm not a writer.

they really should return to using some kind of source material art if they are too cheap to comission new art for the character.
