  • NEW YORK TOY FAIR 2014 - FEB. 16 - FEB. 19 !

Next week, on Sunday, New York Toy Fair 2014 will start, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center ! This means, of course, new reveals for the MOTUC line !

I post this thread a bit early, so we'll be able to follow the reveals and post about them next Sunday on this thread... until then, we'll need lots of patience.

Well I'm debating if I will be attending as Mattel seems to make it impossible to get to their private floor (unless you make an appointment or are press) and since this is for industry and business purposes only, I'm finding it rather dull and boring for the most part.

I could easily go to this since I live about 40 minutes away... I just have no desire. I'd rather go to the annual auto show.

I have to say, I'm looking forward to the reveals ... but I'm almost more interested in what Hasbro has planned for Transformers' 30th Anniversary.

Get your He-Man World Shirt, bring the UNO, have Toyguru sign it, then burn it in front of the media.

You should go! That would be a great chance to put Scooter in his place! Heckle him and call him out on his lies! Oh man if I lived that close I'd be be there for sure!

So, I repeat my question : does anybody here know what day and what time the Matty panel will take place ?

There is no "panel" at NYTF. Only invited guests get to see what Mattel has on offer for the rest of the year.

Invited guests mostly means buyers, press, and selected bloggers. I am not 100% positive but I think you need press badges to attend the presentation- it's not a panel, it's a speech with maybe 4-5 questions afterwards. There will probably be a powerpoint of the new 2014 stuff, and Scooter usually takes some very brief questions. There's been video a few times over the years (one year where he challenged a room full of clueless corporate buyers and press with an immature "Come at me, internet haters!" type of statement is recommended viewing) so hopefully someone will shoot it again this year.

Here it is, his "call out" is at around 19:00 & 28:00. You can see the weird laugh he gets- many mentioned afterwards that since it's all press, not "passionate" fans, he wasn't ever going to get the "battle" he was "looking" for. This is a common way to prevent criticism at a public speaking event- you challenge people who aren't there! I've seen it tons of times over the years. It's honestly not as funny as I remembered, but I do remember, fans were offended. Not really worth your time, as it's all the same BS as usual.

So no one will be broadcasting this presentation ? Will there be any live footage from Toynewsi or Action figures insider ? And I guess that presentation, although not accessible to the public, will occur at a precise day and time, right ? Do we have any information about WHEN this will take place !?

Toy Fair is *not* a comic convention, and it's not a fan panel. It's mostly for retail toy dept. buyers from people like Target, Wal-Mart, etc. or toy industry press. Sometimes there is live coverage of the events, sometimes not. Many companies won't let anyone take pictures of their displays either. Mostly toy/nerd blogs that are NYC based or East Coast based are the only ones to get passes (as they sometimes miss out on SDCC due to the distance)

The stuff they say at these presentations isn't "private" or anything and is usually released in a PDF on their website within a week or so of it happening live. It is usually retail focused so Matty has one presentation, where they talk about everything- the retail stuff mostly, because the buyers for different stores are all there in the room, and they want the buyers to be WOWed and order tons of cases for their chain of stores... I've worked it a few times over the years as a technician and it's not as fun as you would think, the presentations I've worked at were very small (twenty people or less) and no phones or cameras allowed for any reason. CEOs get up and blah blah blah. It's often pretty dry. I am sure someone will tape it, it's just a question as to when it's released on YouTube or elsewhere.

NYTF must be the worst toy convention around, it seems... I had understood that it's an industry-oriented event, and that no public panel occurs. Still, there must be a presentation for the industry members and the press, right ? So, when does this happen !? This is the question I'm trying to get an answer to...

It is not a toy convention. It is not meant for the public. There are no fixed times for presentations. You bring your guests, whoever you invite, and you show them your toys in up the room that you rented... If you were a toy company. That's all there is to that.

Sadly Toy Fair is a Business event and Industry ONLY event (as some here have already pointed out) in which the only way you get or have access to this is if you are to some capacity a business owner / retailer, buyer etc. Here most toys planned or slotted for the year are shown (and very secretively in some cases) to potential investors and buyers for their stores or businesses. No photos (unless you are press and your badges are marked) are allowed to be taken and as I mentioned some are so secretive you have to sign in where a company rep walks you thru the areas with a small presentation of said products; and to get to even walk thru that you badge must be bar coded (as owner / buyer) and not a simply a guest of the business. Another KEY NOTE to all is that NOT ALL companies are actually at the Javitz Center as some (Hasbro and some other companies) are OFF SITE within the city in showrooms.

As for Mattel which is usually located on the top level, you need to make an appointment or be press to attend any presentation but you are allowed to do a quick walk thru in a smaller area of product that for the most part is actually hitting the shelves at that time. Everything else is hidden in the back area. Now there will be some from other sites attending (Kelly TGR) who will be our eyes and ears for everything and I guess when they make the links available we may have a live stream....

Wow... I didn't realize that NYTF was so totalitarian. It seems like we're in Orwell's "1984" book ! No wonder that Mattel takes part : that Company is so fascist that I'm not amazed at the level of secrecy. Yet, "these are just toys", like Matty aplogists say... right !?

It's not totalitarian. It's an industry event, as repeated over and over and over again. It's not secret, it's for industry and press. It's not a comic convention, and it's not Orwellian.

While Razz isn't my favorite, I'm glad for those who have been waiting for her. She is essential to the POP line up, so it's great we finally got her. From a design perspective, she's also pretty spot on.

Madam Razz looks just like she did in the cartoon ! The sculpt is great. NEVERTHELESS, I wonder how she's articulated... The Facebook picture doesn't allow us to see the articulation points. Also, what is that... thing on her sides ? Is that a cape !?!? If it is, it looks weird and unnatural.

On this picture, you can see a bit better Madam Razz's articulation points... They seem quite unique, which worries me a bit. Also, please notice how Razz is leaning against Castle Grayskull's ledge. She's not standing on her own, there. Let's hope she can stand properly ! If not, that will be another pass for me, although I wanted to buy her.

Yeah... personally, I really like the "Lord of Chaos" type of guy. Very colorful, classy and menacing at the same time ! The dwarves and the Paladin look awesome too ! Even the knights and skeletons look badass ! (The Skeletons remind me a bit of Army of Darkness, but with better details). And did you notice the PAINTING on the weapons !? It makes me cry when I look at Blade's swords in comparison...
