  • Breaking News (unofficial): A new direction for Origins at retail in 2024?

Well, this might sound a little unnerving to some, while others might be excited to see it happening!... So, according to a retailer/fan who orders MOTU products from Mattel directly for his shop, he shared some new revelations over at the other forum about how MOTU Origins could be like in 2024 while he was answering members' questions:

I can confirm call orders went out for FIVE new MOTU waves. 2 of them are MOTU Origins, 1 is Masterverse and 2 are a new MOTU line. The MOTU Origins waves are going to consist of one reissue (Mer-Man and She-ra respectively) and the other two figures in the waves with be Filmation figures.
Unfortunately, there is no real documentation when it comes to call orders. Call orders are basically pre-pre-orders for select retailers. Images don't usually come until the pre-orders go live. The details I have are MOTU Origins Wave 15, the new Masterverse wave and the first wave of the new line are all shipping in Q1 2024 with the wave 16 and the second wave of the new line shipping in Q2 2024.

As for the new line, I do know what it is and the breakout of wave 1, but I am not sure I want to spoil it. What I will say is it is a mash-up line with another 80's cartoon property and is based on a comic book mini-series that never ended up materializing.
    Another members replies:
Gotta be MotU/TMNT. That's the only one I know of that art was produced for but never happened (since MotU Thundercats DID materialize)
    The retailer replies back:
    Hmm... could it be? (wink)
    .. And then he continuers:

I have a sneaking suspicion that the remaining figures in the OG line may be released on Mattel Creations since most of them are heavy lifts tooling wise (Rio Blast, Dragstor, etc.). As for the Filmation characters, they are Filmation variants of the main characters, at least at first. One character in each wave will be double-packed since they will still come in cases of four, and that figure is one of the Filmation ones.

One thing I really want to mention to everyone- I have been told that there is a good chance Entertainment Earth (and all other retailers) will be cancelling existing preorders for Rattlor, Kobra Khan, Bolt Man and Snake Armor He-man as Mattel has informed them that production on those figures is now complete. That said, for those sites that still have the preorders up, if they can get enough additional preorders over the next day or so in order to hit the MOQ Mattel is willing to do another run. Basically what i am saying is, if you want those figures now is your last chance to get them before they are gone forever (this goes for both retail and wholesale sides of the house).
    Another member shares this:
Madhatter on Youtube has more detailed rumors on the crossover.

    Each quarter, we'll be getting:

    Origins:
1 reissue, 2 MAJOR Filmation characters

    Origins Crossover line:
2 crossover characters in Eternian style and 2 mutated MOTU characters

    6 Origins figures per quarter
    Q + A:
Q: Two questions if you don't mind.

1)Is Origins getting a new sub-branding with this year's "Rise of the Snakemen" or is it dropping sub-branding completely?

2)Do you know anything about FY2024 deluxe figures?

    A:
I would guess that it will get a rebrand, yes. It would just make sense to me and would likely get announced at SDCC like last year. As for the deluxe figures, I haven't heard anything. That is pretty typical though- usually the standard figure assortments get released for order about a month before the deluxe figures.
    Another member replies:

I think the MOTU x TMNT mash-up sounds interesting! Here is a DC comic art gallery reference if you are curious!

    https://turtlepedia.fandom.com/wiki/He-Man/TMNT/Gallery
And the speculations and discussions continues as usual...
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, aside from the new TMNT, Filmation and Mashups at retail to bring new collectors to the Origins line (or its regraded line), what will really happen to the current vintage based line, would Mattel continue the vintage characters, vehicles, beasts and playsets, and would Powers of Grayskull see the light of day in 2024 as speculated and hinted?!!!... And if so, would these continue via Mattel Creations only, or the other online retailers like BBTS and EE would be able still to offer them on their platforms?!

    Now I'm really worried!

I'm not sure what to think. Can't take it all in.

All I know is this MOTU/TMNT thing is new to me.

So it sounds like 2024 is going to be a major shake up.

So I took had to take this all in. If true were getting just reissues and filmation tweeks for the next 2 waves of origins. Also, maybe Mattel Creations will tbe the only place to throw us a few bones for mostly the new tooled figures. Then there's probably going to a He-Turtle and Skele-Shredder. I guess the Masterverse wave is being spoiled as well.. https://toyhabits.com/masterverse-ma...ave-11-leaked/

In regards to Origins, I hope they'll keep making the vintage based line and the Powers of Grayskull... I have no interest in the Filmation aesthetics toys because they'd look more like Disney than MOTU to me!

I'm intrigues about the mashups and TMNT even though I don't collect the Turtles toys per-se but it's a very cool toy brand, and I like their movies (I have them in my iTunes library), and the original cartoon was great as well.

Jeez man, I wanted to see the rest of the vintage, POG, 200X and NA before branching out into whacky iterations!

I just saw this over at ToyHabits:

BREAKING NEWS!!! This just in…. a trusted source has just confirmed the first wave of MOTU x TMNT Crossover has been confirmed to be coming the first quarter 2024 and we also have leaked images!!!! They will be called the MOTU x TMNT Crossover Turtles of Grayskull and the first wave will contain 4 figures! We also got a leak on a fifth figure, but we are not sure how he fits into the assortment!

            Wave 1 will consist of:
            • He-Man
            • Man At Arms
            • Leonardo
            • Donatello ( no photo available yet)

            Unassigned figure
            • Krang
            Wave 1

Below are leaked images we received from a trusted unnamed source of the new TMNT x MOTU Turtles of Grayskull consisting of He Man, Man At Arms and Donatello and Leonardo. He-Man seems to have blue skin, and a Raphel style red bandana with black chest armor, red “H” spiked arm gauntlets, and red boots. Man Art Arms, looks more that an actual Man At Arms figure, but you can see that he has a turtle shell on his back, and is wearing a blue samurai skirt.

                You gotta point there Midor...
It reminds of the that leak of Fang-Or with the swappable fangs, and it was removed by force by Mattel's legal, and it turned out to be the real thing!

Hmm. Do ya think that Krang/ogre body could be used to make Sagitar?

Sagitar is NA, which isn't officially planned for Origins at this time. Who know, it could happen one day?! (I hope)

BTW, I think Sagitar would require another new mold for the torso if they wanna get it right.

I'm going to be a Nagator and say these are too ugly to be Fugly. Easy Pass and a waste of plastic if you ask me

They do look like customs of an apocalyptical line of sort!... I wonder if these were like very early concepts that were scrapped or are still a bunch of WIPs!

If anything, they'd be good for making your own characters. However, I'd still will hold my judgment until I see proper quality pics!.... Thus far, I'm unimpressed.

So is Krang supposed to be a Goblin or something and is He-man cosplaying as a blue Rambo? I'm sure the turtles will all look half decent but these look exactly like poor customs to me.

At the least, I hope these are really early design phase and I mean really early and leaked to gauge reaction because there's way better turtles on the shelves already with the new movie and all.

I think the leaked artwork for the comic crossover were unexpectedly amazing for the most part. These just look horrid to me and a real head scratcher.

Lol, I like that Blue Rambo Cosplay remark! 😜

Honestly I’m not too familiar with the TMNT world, and I haven’t the watched the cartoons since I was a kid, even the movies, it’s been like 25 plus years even though I have them in my iTunes library…

Walmart is Blistered with TMNT. There's a new cartoon movie coming out so there's Mutant Mayhem figures, the retro ones, and Neca as well. I'm sure there will be all kinds of Lego sets for ya Mech. Lol

The thing is, I’m not a Toy TMNT fan/collector, nor LEGO has the Nickelodeon license anymore to make sets at this time as far as I know.
The property is cool and all especially when it comes to toys, but I’m not one of their targets. HOWEVER, there is this expensive Mecha TMNT die cast line by Heat Boys that I’m very intrigued about but I don’t have the funds for it…

I thought the word I was looking for was either "meh" or "eh".

But after letting it stew in my head for a couple days I still couldn't pick one.

But as I type this the word comes to me, bleh.

If you want to put TMNT on the Origins buck, fine.

But what we saw is just wrong. sad. A waste.

A samurai version of the turtles can be a bit further down the line.

Get the basic turtles with their basic looks on a Origins buck out first then move from there.

This is NOT a good mash up.

What we saw was a fever dream.

What we saw was is when you chug to much cough syrup that contains high levels of alcohol and design a toy.

whoever designed those could hear color and lick sound.

                  in my opinion.

Yeah, I missed on that Junk Yard Dog, Mr.T and many other great figure like Jake the Snake.

The Superstars are mostly for the WWF/WWE fans, and not necessarily for the MOTU world fan base... Oh well, and screw you Walmart.

I was lucky enough to grab those in the wild. The first wave and last wave eluded me though. Now that nobody cares about them most of the prices have went down, so keep eyes on ebay, Mercari, and Amazon if it suits your liking. You can pick em up as they become cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions Andy, I'm not that desperate to complete the WWE line since I was initially interested to use their armors mainly for custom figures of mine. However, if their prices aren't that high, maybe I'll hunt some of them when I have some cash flow.

It looks like Krang's look is partly inspired by Megator. Similar to how Andre the Giant's WWE Universe figure took inspiration from Titus.
