  • So Sun-Man

In Origins Sun-Man is pretty much finished except maybe a few will trickle out in Masterverse.

But what should come next.. or what would you like to see next, who do realistically hope to see Mattel greenlight?

For me I'd like to see them go check out a partnership or whatever and try out Official Feurza -T. To me, they'd fit in and the molds are just mix and match. I mean there's also other things out there that could mesh like Sperotoys or Formotoys but that's just fanboyimg in the moment.

So what do you think about something added in to MotU in general.

Hmm, if they wanna revisit another 80's license to rejoin He-Man, I think Blackstar (not Bravestar) is a perfect one. It's all about Sci-fi barbarians, dragons, monsters, aliens and robots.

Fuerza-T makes also a lot of sense.

Formo's current Legends of Draganor would be awesome, but Mattel has to buy that IP from them and make Emiliano and his friends happy for a while without relying on Val's PC! LOL

I think Bravestarr could work, if they tie him in with Rio Blast.

Bravestarr is just way too western looking for MOTU, especially for the none American fans, just like how TMNT is too comical for this tech barbarian property!

Of course this is just my opinion…

What was the Sun-Man characters considered? Or how did that come about. Also what about the Turtles mashup. Is that a collaboration like Jurassic Park did with Transformers?

LoD wouldn't be a bad IP for Mattel but if they are going to collaborate/ borrow/ give the rub to then I think I want to see AWOK figures inclusion just a little more..

ANIMAL WARRIORS OF THE KINGDOM™ Primal Series. Ultra Detailed and full of articulation, these animal warrior action figures are 1/12 scale and sure to please fans and collectors alike!

Those and the other dinosaurs lines like Dinosaur Battlefield or Saurozoic would also fit with MOTU, and there is also that Defenders of Eden Armies of Ashmore:

So a quick research gave me a little more insight. Mattel doesn't have to buy the IP. They just have to have a partnership agreement or like I said before, a collaboration which I think is what's going to go on with the turtles.

The Legacy of sun-man continues. We are happy to announce the partnership licensing agreement between Mattel, Olmec Toys, and YlaSun. Under this agreement, Mattel is granted the rights to produce Sun-Man from The Rulers of the Sun collection. Olmec Toys and YlaSun retain all rights to the property.

In saying that, I'm not sure MotU needs anything else added in to tick off the fans but I could see Mattel wanting to stretch it out and maybe even venture out testing the waters from other properties and that is why I'm asking in this thread what is realistic, what is warranted or wanted and if it should even be considered

Mech, your dinosaur and insect would fit nicely against some snake men or horde members and I could definitely see the dinos being a part of Preternia.

I actually prefer Mattel producing their own characters and sub-lines instead of investing in partnerships or paying licensing fees like I've mentioned in one of Midor's threads. If the other smaller brands/companies can do their own, the might Mattel surly can do the same and a lot more.

The Sun-Man route was only a "social political" move to prove to their investors that they are part of diversity marketing trend, and it was also a testing ground to figure out if such ideas would sell enough to justify the cost in future sub-brands and such.

If Mattel had not partnered with Yla Eason/Olmec Toys, I suspect the world would never have seen another official Sun-Man action figure. I doubt Mattel had to spend much money to make this happen. I think it was win-win for all involved.

I don’t disagree, after all most of the figures have the same parts here and there with minimal tooling.

What should come next? I want Origins to END so they can put 100% into Masterverse. I don't think it's fair that Origins gets all 10 Rulers Of the Sun figures while Masterverse only gets 2. They need to finish up the last 15 vintage figures & END Origins. Masterverse needs more love.

            Welcome, Nice Avatar!

Mech, is right that the Origins serves one type of fan because of vintage nostalgia but also because of "modularity" (in other words, swappable parts)

You are right too that Masterverse does need more love and it looks like some folks are starting to appreciate it a bit more.

MV also serves it's purpose of all eras inclusion with a different aesthetic.and articulation.

So maybe next is New Eternia Origins Whiplash and Clawful. Maybe a pipe dream of a repaint snuck in looking like Fuerza-T Destroyer, but that's just me.

Either way it's nice to see He-Man sticking around the toy shelves just as long as transformers.

The discussion of modularity is probably what the thread should really be about. I mean we have origins and technically WWE, so what should be next? Rocky, UFC, nothing? Move on and put Classics on the Shelf in the Ultimate form?

I suspect we will see more "Rulers of the Sun" in Masterverse soon. Like the 1987 movie figures, we will see this stuff get spread out I'm sure to keep interest going.

          Hello and welcome.

I don't think Origins and Masterverse are in conflicts with each other, both do serve different collecting markets, arguably; one is based on the vintage toy line (figures, vehicles, playsets etc), and the other one is based on the 7" highly articulated adult consumer action figure market, and if Origins ends sooner or keeps rolling for a few more years, I don't it will have a major effect on the type of production MV has, unless the overall cost is deemed too high by Mattel for the amount of units that are being sold, which isn't the case at this moment in time AFAIK.

And by moving Origins exclusively to Mattel Creations and to some online outlets in 2024, I think there is more room for the MV line to grow regardless if Origins ends soon or not!
