  • Jeff Wadlow to rewrite Masters of the Universe!

Jeff Wadlow has just been hired by Sony Pictures to rewrite Masters of the Universe!

    From The Hollywood Reporter

Jeff Wadlow has come aboard to rewrite Masters of the Universe, Columbia’s big-screen adaptation of the popular 1980s Mattel toyline.

At this stage, Wadlow, who wrote and directed Kick-Ass 2, does not have a deal to direct, although that remains a possibility down the road, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Columbia has been developing the project since 2009, piling writers on top of writers. The project even had Jon M. Chu on board to direct at one point. Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing the project.

Much speculation has been made about who will direct the movie and the studio has reportedly drawn up shortlists. But the script is still far from ready, hence Wadlow’s rewrite gig.

The rewrite will dictate where the studio heads next but it does put Wadlow, who is also working on X-Force for Fox, in a good spot to be in the mix when the time comes.

He is repped by WME and Hirsch Wallerstein.

Man, they just keep changing this thing all the time. I'm starting to doubt that it will ever see the light of day, which is a real tragedy if you ask me.

This could really go either way for the movie. While the Kick Ass movies weren't bad, they certainly weren't visionary. Its certainly a long road between here and a trailer. Maybe he will surprise us.. Lets try to remain positive.

I enjoyed Kick Ass 1, but didn't really like Kick Ass 2. Nevertheless, I am willing to give this guy a chance.

I loved both Kickass movies, my own trepidation comes from it being put out by Sony. I absolutely despised "The Amazing Spider-man", I shudder to think what changes they'd make to MOTU.

Great another rewrite. So, if this dude does not direct, they just paid for a SECOND treatment:re-write that will most likely be re-written if they are able to snag another decent director.

Just go the Machinima route like Mortal Kombat and now Streetfighter - it would cost them about the same for what they have done so far.

Always looking to trade MOTUC to complete my collection.
