USA TODAY is reporting that toy company Hasbro is in talks to buy DreamWorks. The Studio is known for their animated movie franchises Shrek and Madagascar. The NY Times is citing anonymous sources briefed in the talks as stating that Hasbro is in the "advance stages" of a deal with DreamWorks. This potential deal with Hasbro would forge a new family entertainment powerhouse to be called DreamWorks-Hasbro. With Hasbro already owning 40% of Discovery Family, they are making it clear that they want to be the leader of family entertainment, using this media to promote their games and toys including Transformers. So far, Hasbro and DreamWorks Animation have declined to comment.
DreamWorks owns entertainments rights to Masters of the Universe and the Filmation library. All entertainment licenses are shared between Mattel and Classic Media/Dreamworks. Read more more about the proposed deal at USA Today by clicking HERE
