I honestly can't tell. Could be either. Still pretty cool knowing that MOTU is very much a part of popular culture enough to make commercials like these. (the Honda one I mean)

Hey, it's still better than "Toyota: Cars for People Who Hate Driving."

What? No My buddy Calling "shot gun" while TLC's No Scubs plays on the radio? It writes it self.

Also, "Honda: Boring Cars for Boring People." didn't test well.

Of course Honda is going after their 35 - 45 year old demographic.

Honda's are some of the most reliable cars on the market. They are inexpensive to maintain, and they hold their re-sale value over most other manufacturers. They are reliable, cost effective, and smart investment for aging consumers.

They're not trying to sell you a $60'000 gas guzzling machine that will break your bank, and not get you any more sex- than you're not already getting now. Ha ha ha! Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-hahhhh!!!! God, I'm hilarious. They're selling you a beloved friend. Its a very smart ad campaign.

OK, I loved the commercial. Now for my Debbie Downer moment. What a missed opportunity to use the Classics version of Skeletor!

I just picture Skeletor looking at the Mattel Marketing team and saying, "You Boneheads!"

Isn't it interesting that the marketing folks opted to use Skeletor as the spokesperson in the commercial? Apparently, as a character, he holds more cultural cachet in the broader (read: non-geek) community than He-Man himself!
Skeletor as a character has two significant cultural features that He-Man doesn't have: a) His morbid looks, and b) when he talks, he makes people laugh!

That was awesome! Skeletor is a better salesman than Toyguru (and probably more honest too!)

Here are the other videos from the Honda campaign:

    Strawberry Shortcake

    Jem and GI Joe

    Little People

    Gumby and Pokey

    Stretch Armstrong
