  • Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and The Masters of the Universe

The people who brought you Turtle Power and Nintendo Quest join forces to bring you the most epic tale in the Universe!

    Official Press Release | Sep 30, 2015

POP CULTURE FOCUSED FILMMAKERS TEAM UP TO BRING FANS
POWER OF GRAYSKULL: THE DEFINITIVE HISTORY OF
HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

(LONDON, ON, CANADA, September 2015) Southwestern Ontario filmmakers join forces to document the past, present and future of iconic toy, cartoon, and comic line, Masters of the Universe.

Randall Lobb, writer/director/producer of Turtle Power: The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Rob McCallum, writer/director of Nintendo Quest: The Most Unofficial and Unauthorized Nintendo Documentary Ever! once again put their pop culture fandom on film with a deep dive into the history of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Power of Grayskull, the latest in FauxPop Media’s Definitive Film series, will dig into the rich history of what has become one of the most beloved and enduring pop culture icons for millions of fans worldwide.

From concept to comic book, cartoons, movies and beyond, the enormous popularity of Masters of the Universe has spawned legions of loyal fans who’ve turned the cosmically-powered barbarian into an industry. Decades after its creation, MOTU is still going strong – a franchise rich in collectibles, conferences and, more importantly, universal themes that still resonate with audiences after all these years.

By talking to industry insiders, artists, writers, voice actors and the fans themselves, the filmmakers will uncover the truth behind the Power of Grayskull, revealing the rich meaning in a childhood hero whose appeal is much more than simple nostalgia.

In association with Pyre Productions USA L.L.C., FauxPop Media hopes to launch a Kickstarter campaign in early 2016 to galvanize support, involve the community, and raise funds for what promises to be a demanding production. Possible rewards for support may include:

    • Production cells from the animated series
    • Signed prints and memorabilia from key creators
    • Single and multi-disc signed collector sets
    • Supporter credits in the documentary

I haven't seen their previous work, but the more MOTU documentaries, the better!

I saw their Ninja Turtles documentary on Netflix about 4 weeks ago. It was a really good film.

Yeah, it's really good if you're into geeky documentaries.

It's cool that they even mentioned Castle Grayskull and Snake Mountain during it.

I like their teaser trailer, and the music is very catchy. I'm intrigued.

As far as I know, their Ninja Turtles documentary had a limited theatrical release last year, and was released on BluRay and DVD shortly after. This would probably be released the same way.

Excited about seeing this one. I live in Toronto, and its great to see a local film group making this film.

          Hi guys!

Rob McCallum here, a co-director on the film, and we're really looking forward to making this flick. Feel free to ask any questions and we'll try and answer. As far as release strategy, that sort of thing gets ironed out much later and it's very dependent on the final product. Here's hoping that we get a WIDE release on multiple forms of media so He-Fans and She-Ravers all over the world have easy access to the final film!

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum!

This sounds like a different kind of project than Toy Masters, yes? Will this be pretty comprehensive?

                One link says we're $25,453
                pledged of $25,000,

                Kicktraq says we're
                Funding: $24,755 of $25,000,

                Which is it?

Hopefully we passed and are moving onto the next tier goal towards the Creeping Horak Edition.

I think it just takes a few hours for the numbers to show on Kicktraq when credit cards are used. The main Kickstarter page always shows the right amount.

I just got an update that the final goal was met and that they are trying to come up with some new initiatives. That's pretty awesome.

I hope they explore the mystery origins of Wonderbread He-man

It's going to be interesting to see what reward materials will be added for backers to the $50,000 stretch goal. I hope they don't stretch themselves to thin because they have already offered a boatload of awesome incentives for backing this project. This documentary is going to be something special and I'm really looking forward to it. After having a looooooong discussion with the wife I have been given the green light to back this project at the Eternian Legacy level with my income tax refund coming in a few days. (If the remaining spots aren't gone that is) So yes there will be a Bodybuilding Barbarian MotUC action figure coming my way. I even already have the bio thought out. In my cannon this character was the workout partner of He-Man (Oo-Larr) back before he left his tribe. Now with the tribe under attack the Bodybuilding Barbarian (Oo-Larry . . . my name is Larry btw) must find He-Man to help stop Red Beast and his invading Beast-Men tribe from destroying their people. Yeah I'm a huge old school mini comic guy.

I just saw the He-Man documentary today. Anyone who donated to Kickstarter got a free digital download. It should be on sale on Blu-Ray in a few weeks, and rumor has it that it will be on Netflix in 3 weeks.

The documentary is fantastic. Some great interviews from cast and crew of the original cartoons and the live-action movie. James Eatock, John Atkin, and Emiliano Santalucia are also interviewed in the film, which was cool to see. The team who made this film did a terrific job. Definitely worth watching!

I had the pleasure of being interviewed in the He-Man documentary to discuss the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie. Apparently, I can now add the title "He-Man Historian" to my resume

Are you a He-Man historian, or 1987 movie historian? At least the later is your true specialty, no?

So this has bonus features? Interesting...

There are 4 hours worth of bonus footage, and its great stuff. I've watched it all. John, you were enjoyable to watch in the film. Your knowledge on the film was very apparent, and it bridged to the actors' stories quite nicely.

Interestingly enough, I have just found out that the "Power of Grayskull" documentary will be included with the box-set! I was interviewed for the film for their 1987 movie section. It's a great film, and an excellent bonus to have it be part of tis cartoon collection.
