UPDATE: As of Feb 8, 2018, David has dropped out of the project. More news can be found here:

    http://www.hemanworld.com/2018/02/david-goyer-passes-directing-masters-universe/
David S. Goyer (Batman Begins) is in talks to direct the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie for Sony Pictures, according to The Wrap. Goyer wrote the most recent draft of the script for the movie, which is set for release by Sony Pictures on December 18, 2019.

Masters of the Universe is based on the popular Mattel toy line, and spawned several animated series (including the spin-off cartoon series, She-Ra: Princess of Power), along with a 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.

The main premise of the series revolves around the conflict between the heroic warrior He-Man and the evil Skeletor on the planet Eternia, with a vast line-up of supporting characters. Masters of the Universetakes place in a hybrid setting of medieval sword and sorcery and sci-fi technology.

Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch are producing the film. Mattel’s Julia Pistor and David Voss will executive produce on behalf of the toy company. Matthew Milam (The Hitman’s Bodyguard) will oversee the project for the studio.

Another year... another director. At least David Goyer was the writer of the draft that McG was looking at last year, so there is some continuity. Given his work on some of the better DC films (Batman Begin is still my favourite Batman film), I have high hopes that he will do well with He-Man.

Even David S. Goyer some good scripts for good films. I am curious to know how well he knows this He-Man property.

They should give it a rest already! I don't wanna see a movie that's probably gonna mostly bomb at the box office, and cost round $300 millions or more!

Give us an epic cartoon instead, even at a half million an episode with two major seasons of 40-50 episodes, it still is going to cost a fraction of what a movie would cost and probably would have a better effect on the fans and the collectors a like...

        My two rusty cents.

The Sony studio can't give it a rest, because if they don't make it by Dec 2019 they lose the rights. I believe Universal will acquire the rights if it isnt made by then.

They haven't even started on it yet, they're waisting their time and losing momentum, unless if they wanna produce a CGI animated movie, which could even take a longer time to make.
I don't know, probably they better off if sell/give the rights to someone else, since they don't seem serious about this property!

Here's an interesting Forbes article. The author makes some good points about she-ra being in a movie first.

A 'She-Ra' movie would stand out from the pack in a way that a 'He-Man' movie would not.

This is actually an old article that Forbes decided to republish. My guess is the person who wrote it is a She-Ra fan. Personally, I disagree with them. Story wise, it makes more sense to start with Prince Adam/He-Man, like they did with the Filmation series.

It would be more logical for he-man to come first in a movie simply because of familiarity. Soem folks still actually confuse she-ra as his wife instead of sister. I don't really care if they ever introduce she-ra or even care much if they bastardize her for hollywood flava.

They way it looks now though for he-man hasn't gained much steam or real interest and heroines are hot right now in that regard.

D.s.Goyer? As in writer and director of Blade Trinity David S. Goyer? As in writer for Ghost Rider 2, where Nic Cage pees ????? As in writer for Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD TV movie?

Suddenly, Uwe Boll doesn't sound that bad...

LOL, thank God I don't watch lots of movies and TV shows these days... Even The Last Jedi was one of the worst written franchise movies that I've seen in a while!

Goyer co-wrote the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. I can't really hold the "Nick Fury" movie over his head, as that was made back in the 90s for TV when he was just starting out. Blade 3 might have sucked, but he did write Blade 1 and 2, and they were great films. As for Ghost Rider, he came up with the initial story, but he didn't write the final script. I'm willing to give him a chance on MOTU.

David recently posted a number of photos on his company Instagram page, and one of the pictures shows a look at concept art for Teela’s “Battle Suit”. Also of note in the photo is the stack of He-Man comic books from DC Comics on the table!

It makes me wonder what is going on. Is this a battle suit designed by the "good guys", or is she wearing a suit stolen from the enemy (ala Filmation He-Man in a Horde Trooper suit).

I’m all for cyborgs, power suits and mechs in this universe so long as it doesn’t over shadow the sword and sorcery and the fantasy elements... In this case, I’d rather see that they won’t use closed canopies and helmeted mechs, unless they’re meant for unbreathable environments.

At this point, is it pretty much impossible for this movie to be released by December 2019? What happens if it gets delayed? Does Sony lose its rights?

                    Thank goodness Goyer is gone.
At this point it’s looking more and more like the only chance Sony can keep the rights is to call Roger Corman and Fantastic Four this thing.

.......and it would probably still look better than that crappy Teela Robot Jox suit Goyer was looking at...

It has been radio silence since he announced his departure from the film. I don't think Sony is going to make a He-man movie anymore.

I think it's either a) they're working on it already and they're keeping silence until they surprise us with a content or a trailer, or b) the project is dead and they're ready to give the license back!

IMO, the second outcome is more likely...

Nothing major but.....Principal photography is due to get underway mid-July in Prague.

I don't have much hope yet it could still happen..

Honesty I think MotU film really need proper CGI effects get example transformation. Question should be fine if new He-Man film is made in CGI animation style like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse? I be complete fine for it since character design then can be most near or matching with character looks what we are used for it.

So this new kid on the block Noah Centineo was featured on The Tonight's Show and he confirmed the rumor surrounding him that he's playing He-Man for Sony!

Well, I can see his personality fitting for Prince Adam, but He-Man?... I don't know guys, he does't have the physique, nor the voice and the charisma for such an iconic character IMHO, so I wonder how Sony is going to pull it off?:
