  • MOTU Revolution gets a new Teela!

Apparently Kevin Smith's MOTU Revolution gets a new voice for the Teela character (Melissa Benoits), and here is the article from TNI:

ACTRESS MELISSA BENOIST JOINS MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVOLUTION CAST AS TEELA
The continuation of Kevin Smith’s Emmy nominated animated series will premiere on Netflix globally in 2024

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., – March 8, 2023 – Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) announced today that Melissa Benoist (HBO Max’s upcoming Girls on the Bus) joins the voice cast of the acclaimed He-Man adaptation, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, as the heroine, Teela. Fresh off her run as the titular superhero Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El in the hit CW show Supergirl, Benoist joins Revolution’s all-star cast which includes Chris Wood as He-Man, Emmy nominee Mark Hamill as Skeletor, and William Shatner in a still-to-be announced role.

Just in time for International Women’s Day, today’s news marks Benoist’s third collaboration with Kevin Smith, having previously appeared in the films Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III. Benoist’s role as Teela will mark her second time working with husband Chris Wood, who appeared in the earlier seasons of Supergirl as Mon-El.

“I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine,” said Melissa Benoist. “I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”

Set as the follow-up to 2021’s Revelation, Revolution finds Benoist joining the fray as Teela alongside He-Man and the rest of the Masters as they struggle to save Eternia from the tangles of darkness. Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before. It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.

“On the heels of our 40th anniversary, He-Man is more prevalent in pop culture than ever before, which is why we’re especially excited to bring the force that is Melissa Benoist into the fold," said Fred Soulie, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Mattel Television. “Melissa already exemplifies every aspect of Teela’s formidable personality, and we know that she will continue to showcase the same heart as she did in Supergirl, providing audiences with a new iteration of a classic character synonymous with strength and heroism.”

Masters of the Universe: Revolution is set to debut on Netflix in 2024 and is executive produced by Mattel’s Fred Soulie, Rob David and Christopher Keenan, as well as Ted Biaselli and Kevin Smith.

A bit strange to me, this one. Good casting choice, but why replace Sarah? Voice acting only takes a few hours or days in studio, so I would be surprised if scheduling was the issue.

A few probable reasons come to mind:

      - Scheduling (like you said).
      - Script wasn't good or interesting enough.
      - Didn't want to deal with the fans' drama or Kevin Smith?

It could be scheduling, as I see she is starring in a new show now.

I thought this series had tanked because of the backlash to its wokeness. Yet they keep trying to cram it down our throats, thinking that a shiny petina of celebs can fix it? The animation is grotesque, the plots are inane, the characters nothing like the personalities we were raised on. One would think that somebody like Hamill would have feelers out and be able to detect that the real fans -- the original ones this garbage is purportedly aimed at -- don't want him hamming-up / Jokerizing his part, let alone using his name to propel an agenda. Benoist is younger, even moreso than said fans, but I thought she showed sensibility in parts like the Waco mini-series -- so again, why sign on to a woke train wreck?

I quit watching Revelation the moment Man-At-Arms knelt to beg forgiveness from Teela's petulant wrath over doing his duty. Its progeny, Revolution, won't even get a single view from me. And though I know that writing letters doesn't accomplish squat these days, I say that we must push back against this garbage in any way that we can. They tried serving us a bowl of ice cream with a turd on it, thinking we're such hopeless addicts that we'd wolf it down. I say to hell with them.

While I respect your opinion and I agree that this series is a bit too Hollywood-esque and isn't to my likening like many out there, but don't you think it's a bit too strong of an opinion for someone who just stopped watching the series during the first half of the 3rd episode?!

Not at all. I skimmed through the remaining episodes and saw glimpses of the atrocity first hand. Combined with watching some reviews by people who actually did tough it out, I'd say my opinion is spot-on: It's utter garbage, a crass bastardization of the source material, apparently designed to tickle the "She-Man" kink of low-testosterone subs looking to lick women's boots.

Is it garbage at least story and concept wise; in my opinion yes... But I always recommend others to watch the whole first part before making a strong judgement on it. In general, don't rely on people's opinions only.

Having said that, I think the Filmation cartoons were also a bit too lame for what MOTU was suppose to be, but I still somehow managed to enjoy a lot of it for what it was, and clearly knowing in my mind and heart that it wasn't my MOTU.

Well, with any luck the chemistry between He-Man and Teela will be better in the next season.

Good that she’s gone IMO, the writing of Teela’s character in this show was hard to stomach, and SMG’s voice seemed so shrill and grating, making Teela even more intolerable.
Hopefully the writing of Teela will change in season two and not just the voice actor

Pretty much what I was thinking and what I wish for.

The 200X cast was almost sublime, and the writing as well expect for; it was targeted towards the younger audience.
